Position summary
Department / Research Program: Translational Research in Respiratory Diseases (RESP) Program
The Nguyen Laboratory, within the Translational Research in Respiratory Diseases (RESP) Program at the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC), is seeking a Junior Assistant to support research projects focused on respiratory infections, host-pathogen interactions, antimicrobial resistance, and antimicrobial drug discovery. The incumbent will work closely with laboratory personnel and assist with routine microbiology laboratory activities, preparation of materials and reagents, data recording, and general laboratory organization.
General Duties
- Assist with routine microbiology laboratory procedures and projects, including preparation of culture media, bacterial culture maintenance, sample processing, and basic molecular biology techniques.
- Prepare laboratory materials, reagents, and equipment required for experiments and ensure laboratory supplies are appropriately stocked and organized.
- Record, organize, and maintain experimental data, laboratory inventories, and research documentation in accordance with laboratory protocols.
- Perform routine equipment maintenance, cleaning, and quality control procedures as assigned.
- Ensure compliance with biosafety, laboratory safety, and research ethics requirements.
- Accomplish any other related laboratory or administrative tasks as required by the immediate supervisor.

Education / Experience
Education: Bachelor's Degree
Field of Study: Microbiology or related
Work Experience: 0-6 months
Required Skills
- Knowledge of French is required.
- An advanced knowledge of oral and written English is required, as the position requires regular and complex contact with researchers or international students who are exclusively proficient in English.
- Bachelor's degree in Microbiology or a related life sciences field.
- Previous laboratory experience in microbiology, bacteriology, cell culture, molecular biology, or related techniques is considered an asset.
- Familiarity with aseptic technique, bacterial culture methods, and laboratory safety procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate laboratory records and follow established protocols.
Additional information
Status: Temporary, full time (35-hour workweek)
Pay Scale: Commensurate with education and experience
Work Shift: Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm
Work Site: Glen Site, 1001 Decarie Blvd.
