THE OPPORTUNITY
The UGDSB is seeking a dynamic individual to join our Human Rights, Equity and Accessibility team for a temporary full-time opportunity in the capacity of Black Student Success Coordinator – Itinerant.
Location: Grant Evans Education Centre (40 Amelia Street, Orangeville ON) with travel required to any UGDSB site locations, based on the needs of the role.
FTE and Hours: 1.0 FTE; 35 hours per week
Salary Range: $85,811 - $102,906 per year (wage rate effective September 1, 2025)
Start Date: Duties to commence as soon as possible
Length of Position: This is a 1-year temporary full-time position, with the possibility of extension

Reporting to the Human Rights Equity and Accessibility Commissioner, the Black Student Success Coordinator – Itinerant will support the priorities of the UGDSB Multi-Year Strategic Plan and Vision 2026+.
This position supports Black-identifying students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 while driving system-wide equity transformation.
As a key member of the Human Rights, Equity and Accessibility Office, the Black Student Success Coordinator – Itinerant will play a critical role in supporting student achievement and well-being, advancing anti-Black racism education, and embedding equity practices across the UGDSB system. The work includes direct student engagement, staff learning, and collaborative action to address systemic barriers affecting Black students.
Responsibilities:

Provide identity-affirming, culturally responsive support to Black students, particularly in moments of academic, social, or disciplinary challenge

Build trusting relationships with Black students and their families across all grade levels (K–12)

Support school and board staff in understanding, addressing, and dismantling anti-Black racism and intersecting barriers
-
Develop and deliver school-wide and system-wide learning for staff, in collaboration with the Human Rights Office, promoting practices that reflect the priorities of the UGDSB Multi-Year Strategic Plan

Collaborate with administrators to develop action plans to address disproportionalities in achievement, discipline, and access to programming
-
Contribute to data-informed planning and decision-making to close opportunity gaps

Establish partnerships with families, community agencies, and culturally relevant supports

Represent the Human Rights Office on committees, learning events, and response teams

Develop, track, and report on strategies that support the UGDSB's commitment to equity and anti-racism

Travel as required to various locations within the UGDSB

Experience and Qualifications:
-
Post-secondary degree or diploma in Education, Social Work, Human Rights, Public Administration, Psychology, Humanities, or a related discipline
-
A minimum of 3 years of recent and relevant experience in supporting the achievement of diverse youth through equitable and culturally responsive practices

In-depth knowledge of anti-Black racism in education and equity-based frameworks, including how Anti-Black racism operates in the education system and adjacent systems, gained through lived and professional experience

Demonstrated ability to build affirming, empowering relationships with Black students and families
-
Knowledge of local community resources and the ability to support students geared to African, Caribbean and Black identifying (ACBi) communities
- Strong facilitation skills and experience supporting adult learning

Understanding of systemic racism and its impacts on student engagement, discipline, programming, and mental health
-
A proven ability to organize and coordinate a diverse number of tasks and projects combined with demonstrated problem-solving skills

Capacity for independent and sound judgement, diplomacy, and discretion

Ability to utilize a collaborative, inclusive approach with internal and external stakeholders
-
Demonstrated understanding of the diversity and composition of Black communities and awareness of local community resources
-
Proven expertise in identifying barriers and designing appropriate interventions to improve outcomes of Black students
-
Demonstrated ability to act as a trusted mentor and advisor to Black students
-
Deep understanding of students' needs and the principles of youth engagement

Strong initiative, follow through, communication, analytical and presentation skills

As per the Ontario Human Rights Code, this role is focused on serving the needs of Black students and preference will be given to candidates with African, Caribbean and Black identifying (ACBi) lived experience
