Position: Postdoctoral Scholar
Area: Theoretical Quantum Information Science and Quantum computing
Duration: 2 years, with the possibility of a 1-year extension
Start date: TBD (flexible)
Salary: $75,000 CAD per annum, plus University of Calgary Plan C health benefits
The Department of Computer Science, the Department of Mathematics, and the Department of Physics and Astronomy in the Faculty of Science at the University of Calgary is accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar in Quantum Information Science and Computing.
Job Description:
The successful candidate will be appointed a Postdoctoral Associate and be expected to conduct independent and collaborative research in quantum information science and/or computing under the supervision of faculty members in the Department of Computer Science, the Department of Physics and Astronomy, or the Department of Mathematics: Dr. Connor Paddock (CS), Dr. Xavier Coiteux-Roy (CS/Physics), Adam Bene Watts (Math/CS), and/or Dr. Carlo Maria Scandolo (Math). The specific research focus will be aligned with the candidate¿s expertise and may include, but is not limited to:
- Quantum Information Theory,
- Quantum Cryptography,
- Quantum Circuit Complexity,
- Quantum Resource Theories,
- Quantum Foundations,
- Quantum Complexity Theory,
- Nonlocal Games and Entanglement,
- Distributed Quantum Computing,
- Quantum Architectures and Circuit Synthesis.
Responsibilities will include:
- Producing high¿quality, peer-reviewed research publications
- Participating in seminars, workshops, and conferences
- Collaborating with faculty, postdoctoral scholars, and graduate students
- Contributing to the intellectual life of the department(s), including mentoring graduate and undergraduate students where appropriate
- Assisting in the development of external research funding proposals, if aligned with career goals.
The position provides opportunities for collaboration within the University of Calgary¿s growing quantum ecosystem through Quantum City (QC) and the Institute for Quantum Science and Technology (IQST) and with national and international partners.
Qualifications:
Required qualifications:
- A PhD (or completion expected before starting date) in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related discipline.
- Research experience in quantum information science, quantum computing, or a related area
- A strong record of research productivity or clear evidence of strong research potential
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative research team
- Candidates must be eligible for appointments as a Postdoctoral Scholar at the University of Calgary at the time of hiring.
