We are seeking an engaging Temporary Aquatics Director to lead our Aquatics Department. The Aquatics Director provides operational leadership across the Aquatics department, overseeing daily operations, people leadership, program development, safety and compliance, member experience, facility coordination, and financial performance. As the Aquatics Director, you will be responsible for delivering safe, high-quality aquatic programs and services, developing a strong leadership team, driving continuous improvement, and ensuring departmental priorities align with the Club’s standards, member expectations, and strategic objectives.

Responsibilities:
- Strategically direct, plan, and optimize aquatic operations, facilities, events and schedules to ensure industry-leading service, safety standards, and exceptional member experiences.
- Foster a collaborative, accountable team culture through clear communication, coaching, performance support, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Lead the recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, payroll, performance management, and offboarding for direct reports including the Aquatics Supervisor, Head Lifeguards, Aqua Fitness Instructors, and Team Leads.
- Develop and support staff and leaders through training, coaching, certification management, succession planning, and professional development.
- Resolve member and staff concerns professionally while ensuring a safe, positive, and high-quality experience.
- Manage departmental budgets, forecasting, reporting, purchasing, inventory, and vendor relationships to support effective operations and resource allocation.
- Monitor operational performance and provide administrative and committee support to inform decision-making and strategic planning.
- Ensure full compliance with Glencoe and Alberta OHS health and safety regulations by overseeing staff training, regular facility inspections, equipment maintenance, risk management, and rigorous emergency incident reporting.
- Collaborate with internal departments and facility teams to drive seamless operations, advance organizational initiatives, and actively promote aquatics programs to ensure a safe, exceptional member experience.
Qualifications:
- Diploma or degree in Recreation, Sports Administration, or related field
- 3-5 years of leadership experience in a large aquatic facility, with experience in private clubs considered an asset
- Certifications in the following are required: National Lifeguard – Pool; Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor; Leadership Instructor; Standard First Aid & CPR; Pool Operators II
- Lifesaving Society Instructor or Trainer certifications, National Lifeguard Instructor, Aquafitness Instructor and First Aid/CPR Instructor certifications, would be considered an asset.
- Proven experience in recruitment, workforce planning, leadership, performance management, budget management and reporting, coaching, and team development.
- Demonstrated success in developing, delivering, and enhancing aquatics programs and associated documentation (policies, procedures, training programs, and service standards), that drive participation, engagement, and operational effectiveness.
- Strong knowledge of aquatic safety, risk management, emergency response procedures, health regulations, and industry standards.
- Excellent communication, relationship-building, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills, with the ability to effectively address member and staff concerns.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate, influence outcomes, facilitate discussions, and make sound decisions in a dynamic environment, with a high level of professionalism, integrity, accountability

Additional Details:
This is a temporary 12-month, full-time, salaried position that reports to the Recreation Manager. The successful candidate may be required to work a variety of shifts including weekdays, evenings, weekends and holidays, so a flexible schedule is required.
