Role Overview:
We are looking for a motivated and reliable medical scribe to join our outpatient cardiology team. You will work closely with the cardiologist and other staff members to provide high-quality care to our patients. You will be responsible for accurately documenting the patient’s history, physical examination, diagnosis, treatment plan, and follow-up instructions in the electronic health record system.
Key Responsibilities:
In this role you will be responsible for the duties below including but not limited to:
- Reviewing the patient’s medical history, medications, allergies, and other pertinent information before each visit including problem list, medication list, and allergy list.
- Preparing medical record documentation/charts for the cardiologist using information from internal office, the patient and external electronic medical records (i.e. Netcare).
- Entering the patient’s vital signs, chief complaint, and reason for visit.
- Facilitating the flow of information between the cardiologist and other providers, facilities, and agencies including ordering tests.
- Other administrative tasks as assigned.
Work Location:
On-site at On-site Cardiology One (Outpatient Clinic with Echocardiography/Carotid Doppler Lab) in Calgary, Alberta. Weekdays only; approximately 8-24 hours weekly.
Candidates must be able to reliably commute or be prepared to relocate to Calgary, Alberta, prior to the start date.
Qualifications:
- Completion of a medical scribe training program or certification. Previous experience as a medical scribe, preferably in cardiology. OR Completion of a domestic or international medical degree (MD equivalent), nurse practitioner, or physician assistant training program.
- Current BCLS is an asset.
- Previous experience as a medical scribe, preferably in cardiology.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and cardiology.
- Capability to work autonomously and as part of an inter-professional team.
- Excellent communication skills, enabling effective interactions with patients, healthcare professionals, and team members.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
- Ability to produce high quality work in accordance with set clinic standards.
- Portray a positive attitude towards all patients and colleagues.
- A high degree of enthusiasm and willingness to learn, teach and participate in improving services.
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and communicate effectively using the English language.
- Accurate and proficient keyboarding skills minimum 40 wpm required.
Experience:
- Completion of a medical scribe training program or certification. Previous experience as a medical scribe, preferably in cardiology. OR Completion of a domestic or international medical degree (MD equivalent), nurse practitioner, or physician assistant training program.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain a professional image, manage stressful situations with empathy and to remain calm, courteous, sensitive, and tactful at all times.
- An excellent attendance record, reliability and personal suitability must be demonstrated through your employment references.
- New employees must provide a criminal records check (at their own expense). Smoking restrictions are in effect. Dress code includes scrub uniforms in the clinic.
