Position Overview:

The Generalist Boot Maker plays a key role in the production of high-quality, handcrafted boots. This role requires versatility across multiple stages of the boot making process - from cutting and stitching to lasting and finishing – with a commitment to precision, craftsmanship, and efficiency. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, takes pride in traditional techniques, and adapts quickly to shifting production priorities.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform a range of boot making tasks including cutting, skiving, stitching, lasting, sole attachment, and finishing.
Follow established patterns, templates, and quality specifications for each style.
Operate and maintain production machinery and hand tools used in leather boot manufacturing.
Inspect materials and components before and during assembly to ensure quality standards are met.
Ensure finished boots meet brand standards for fit, durability, and overall aesthetic quality.
Identify and report defects, inconsistencies, or equipment issues promptly.
Support multiple stages of production to meet daily and weekly output targets.
Participate in cross-training to maintain production flexibility and team efficiency.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workstation in accordance with safety guidelines.
Collaborate and communicate effectively with bootmakers, pattern cutters, and production leads to support smooth workflow and continuous improvement.

Qualifications & Skills:

Experience in footwear manufacturing, leatherworking, or a related craft/trade environment.
Proficiency operating hand tools and industrial sewing machines.
Strong attention to detail with a demonstrated commitment to quality craftsmanship.
Knowledge of leather types, treatments, and footwear construction methods.
Experience with Western or heritage boot styles considered an asset.
Ability to read and interpret technical specifications, patterns, and production drawings.
Excellent manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
Physically capable of lifting up to 25 kg (55 lbs) occasionally.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced production environment with machinery, adhesives, and dyes.
Adaptable and willing to learn different production stages as required.
