The Manager, Snow School is responsible for overseeing all aspects of WinSport’s Snow School Ski and Snowboard Programs. This involves the planning, delivery, quality, growth and performance of WinSport’s Snow School programs: Learn To/Introductory Programs and Development Level (intermediate – Advanced) Ski and Snowboard programs. This position ensures safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate lessons aligned with national standards and WinSport’s commitment to sport excellence and guest experience.
The Manager oversees operational readiness, instructional quality, staffing coordination, and seasonal execution across Snow School programs.
Key Responsibilities
Program Design and Portfolio Management
- Design Snow School curriculum grounded in Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) principles, national sport governing, and certifying bodies standards and principles.
- Oversee annual program planning cycles, scheduling, staffing models, and resource allocation.
- Work with cross-functional partners to develop and update manuals, policies and procedures for all training and instructional features.
- Lead seasonal program planning for ski and snowboard programs, including curriculum implementation, age and level structures, lesson schedules, and operational readiness.
- Drive participation growth across youth, recreational, performance, and leadership development streams.
- Strengthen pathways from introductory programs to high-performance environments.
Program Delivery and Innovation
- Oversee operational readiness and program delivery across Snow School programs.
- Maintain knowledge of industry standards related to coaching, instruction, and athlete skill progression within your portfolio
- Ensure instructors deliver curriculum aligned with national certification standards.
- Ensure programs reflect best practices in coaching, risk management, and participant engagement.
- Oversee instructional and program quality assurance.
- Monitor class sizes, groupings, and skill progression to maintain optimal learning experiences.
- Serve as escalation point for lesson-related guest concerns.
- Support Team Leads in resolving operational and instructional challenges.
- Continuously evaluate program outcomes using data and participant feedback.
- Monitor participation, retention, utilization, and guest experience metrics to support program performance and operational improvements.
- Use operational data, participant feedback, and post-season reviews to identify trends and inform decision-making.
Program Operations
- Actively work with operations and provide feedback on features and terrain design, including providing feedback on areas in which improvements of maintenance is needed.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Rentals, Lift Operations, and Guest Services to support effective lesson flow and guest experience delivery.
- Contribute and provide operational insight during toolbox discussions.
- Ensure scheduling and shift coverage are appropriate for seasonal operations.
Finance and Revenue Operations
- Develop and manage program budgets, revenue forecasts, labour targets, and operational expenditures.
- Achieve sales targets, oversee expenses and revenue including the oversight of temporary labor.
- Ensure the completion and submission of timesheets to ensure payroll is done on time and accurately.
- Oversee pricing, scheduling, and program structure improvements.
- Demonstrate cost consciousness in managing sport operations.
- Identify opportunities for program innovation and growth.
Team Leadership and Development
- Oversee Snow School recruitment, onboarding, workforce planning, and performance management.
- Ensure programs reflect best practices in coaching, risk management, and participant engagement.
- Establish instructional quality standards and support Team and Shift Leads in instructor development and guest experience practices.
- Provide performance feedback and contribute to seasonal evaluations.
- Model instructional excellence and positive leadership behaviours.
- Plan and deliver instructor training to ensure consistent instructional quality and alignment with program curricula and standards.
Safety and Risk Management
- Ensure adherence to WinSport’s health, safety, and risk management policies, including equipment use and supervision standards.
- Lead by example in promoting a safe work environment by adhering to all WinSport safety policy and procedures.
- Ensure instructors adhere to emergency response protocols.
- Support incident documentation and follow-up procedures.
Partnerships and Collaboration
- Maintain collaborative working relationships with certifying bodies, schools, and community partners to support program quality and participant pathways.
- Work closely with WinSport’s club programs to create pathways for athletes to continue their development beyond the snow school.
- Liaise with Guest Services for product knowledge of programs and services.
- Proactively engage families, school groups, and adult learners to enhance satisfaction.
- Liaise with industry partners (e.g., CADS Calgary) on professional and instructional support to broaden opportunities.
- Diploma or degree in Sport & Recreation Management or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 5 years experience in ski/snowboard instruction & program operations.
- Up to date and current First Aid and CPR is required.
- CASI or CSIA level 1 or equivalent Certification is required.
- CASI or CSIA level 3 or equivalent Certification or higher considered an asset
- Demonstrated curriculum/program design experience.
- Experience managing large scale sport-based programming is considered an asset.
- Experience in high-performance or competitive snow sport environments.
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience in a sport environment.
Skills and Competencies
- Exceptional written and verbal communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and experience with data analysis and reporting tools.

- Work Hours:
- Generally full-time, Monday to Friday during the off-season with in-season hours generally being Thursday to Monday. Some variation based on operational needs.
- Available to work occasional evenings and weekends as necessary.
