We are more than an emergency shelter.
Our dedicated team of staff and volunteers work tirelessly to ensure that everyone who walks through our doors feels welcomed, respected, and valued. All of our programs, including emergency shelter, are low-barrier, trauma-informed, housing-focused, and recovery-oriented, aimed at supporting Calgary’s most vulnerable citizens. And our doors are always open.

Position Summary
Reporting to the Manager, Health & Recovery Services, the Supervisor of Recovery-Oriented System of Care (ROSC) programs provides leadership to the Withdrawal Management and Recovery Transition programs. These programs support clients in various stages of recovery—from acute withdrawal to stabilization and goal-setting. The Supervisor ensures coordinated, client-centered care through supervision of multidisciplinary teams, operational oversight, and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
Time Commitment
40 hours per week, Monday to Friday. This role requires participation in a compensated on-call/after-hours support rotation. The rotation is collaboratively self-scheduled among team members, based on availability, and provides coverage for evenings and weekends. Work schedules may be adjusted at the discretion of management.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervise regulated and unregulated healthcare professionals including LPNs, Social Workers, Recovery Transition Navigators, Recovery Coaches and Recovery Engagement Workers.
- Oversee program operations including staffing, inventory, and client flow.
- Provide direct care and support when needed, including assessments, medication administration, and discharge planning.
- Support staff development and foster a collaborative team environment.
- Facilitate team meetings, case conferences, and professional development.
- Collaborate with physicians and community partners to ensure continuity of care.
- Contribute to program evaluation, quality improvement, and accreditation efforts.
Required Competencies and Qualifications
- Must be a Regulated healthcare professional (e.g., CLPNA, CRNA, or equivalent).
- Active registration with the applicable professional college or licensing body.
- Valid Professional Liability Insurance.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in recovery-oriented programming, addictions, or mental health.
- Satisfactory Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check – dated within the last 6 months. Copy required.
- Leadership experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and recovery models.
- Ability to work in high-stress environments and respond to medical emergencies.
- Have at minimum a working understanding of Trauma Informed Care.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of the epidemiology of addiction and able to maintain active learning on emerging evidence and best practices.
- Resourcefulness and knowledge of community resources and social support systems.
- Energetic and self-directed, with effective time management and organizational skills including the ability to deal with several priorities at the same time.
- Well-developed interpersonal, conflict resolution and negotiating skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to direct and improve projects, programs, and processes.
- Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written, and demonstrated ability to adapt communication style to meet the needs of clients and/or staff of various ages, education level, ethnic backgrounds, socioeconomic status, and learning styles.
- Must demonstrate the proper use of initiative and work autonomously.
- Ability to develop and maintain relationships with a wide variety of service stakeholders.
- Must be acceptable of industry risks, including coming into contact with bodily fluids.
- A genuine commitment to the mission, vision, values, and work of the agency.
Working Conditions
The individuals we serve are experiencing homelessness or precarious housing and may also be facing substance use disorders and/or mental or physical health challenges. Many have a history of significant trauma. These experiences can influence their interactions with both staff and one another. By recognizing these behaviors as responses to past experiences, we are able to engage with our guests in a manner that is empathetic and respectful.
This role may involve high-stress situations that require resilience, compassion, and composure. At the DI we are deeply committed to the well-being of our staff, implementing policies and providing resources that support both physical and psychological safety, as well as mental health. Although the DI is a smoke-free work environment, there may be occasional exposure to secondhand smoke from designated smoking areas nearby.
