This role helps provide food and beverages to visitors that are hungry and thirsty, ensuring guests enjoy their visit and have a memorable dining experience. The Café Cook will work closely with the Senior Wedding and Event Manager & Café Manager and Café Supervisor and will assist with a diverse assortment of Café duties that reflect the immediate needs of the organization. Typical daily responsibilities of the Café Cook include preparing food and serving guests. In addition, the incumbent will support operations in other departments such as Admissions and Gift Store as required.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work closely with the Café Supervisor and Café Manger to prepare & cook food, safely operate kitchen equipment, maintain stock preparation areas in order to maintain high level of food quality and customer satisfaction
- Welcome and greet guests to the onsite café, receive customer orders for food and beverages, operate till and process point of sale transactions
- Provide friendly, inclusive customer service, understand and be prepared to handle customer complaints & special requests in a professional manner, understand special dietary restrictions, open & close procedures for the café
- Receive customer orders for food and beverages, operate till and process point of sale transactions
- Interact professionally with all visitors including but not limited to children, youth, adults, seniors, disabled and/or special needs persons, persons who are members of a visible minority and/or Indigenous peoples and will ensure provision of services to the community
- Maintain a tidy and clean Café front-of-house, dining area, and patio with table service, bussing tables, dishwashing, cleaning, sweeping, mopping, removing garbage, and compliance with government food safety and health and safety standards
- Record daily Equipment Temperature Logs, Sanitization Logs, Cleaning Logs, and other logs as needed
- Other duties to support daily operations and customer service as assigned
- Assist other departments as needed
- Adhere to all Company policies, rules, systems and procedures which are outlined in the Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory Employee Handbook, as well as all Health and Safety policies and procedures and safe work practices
QUALIFICATIONS, REQUIREMENTS, & SKILLS
- An interest in or pursuing post-secondary education in kitchen and culinary management, food and beverage science, hospitality and service, or a related field an asset
- Safe Food handling practices an asset
- Cash Handling practices an asset
- Adapt with changing job requirements and goals based on business needs
- Coordinate in a team environment and work with others to achieve shared goals
- Identify issues and apply solutions to fix problems across the facility and grounds
- Stay organized and manage time, priorities, & deadlines
- Exchange thoughts and information with colleagues and customers through a variety of forms
- Use digital technology through computer, tablet and other device’s software, systems, and applications
- Food Safety/Safe Food Handling certificate an asset
- Police Background Check (Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check)
UNIFORM
Staff are required to wear the appropriate uniform, footwear and safety equipment at all times
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
This is a part-time fixed-term position. The shifts are typically from 9 am to 5 pm on both weekdays and weekends. The rate of pay is $18.00/hour.
