Murray's Millwood Manor CRF is currently seeking a Full-Time Night Monitoring Officer to join our team.
This position provides a unique opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience in community corrections, residential supervision, security operations, crisis intervention, and resident support within a Community Residential Facility (CRF) operating under contract with Correctional Service Canada (CSC).
This role is ideal for individuals pursuing careers in Corrections, Community Justice Services, Policing, Security, Social Services, Criminology, Psychology, or other related fields.
ABOUT US
Murray's Millwood Manor CRF is a Community Residential Facility and retirement residence located in Kitchener, Ontario.
Our facility provides accommodation, supervision, and support to a diverse resident population, including:
- Federal offenders under community supervision through Correctional Service Canada (CSC)
- Seniors and retirement home residents
- Individuals with complex health and support needs
- Individuals transitioning from homelessness
- Other vulnerable populations requiring residential support
We work closely with Correctional Service Canada, Parole Officers, healthcare professionals, community agencies, and other stakeholders to maintain a safe, structured, and supportive living environment.
POSITION SUMMARY
Monitoring Officers play a critical role in maintaining facility security, resident accountability, emergency response, and overall operational safety.
Monitoring Officers are often the first point of contact for residents, visitors, emergency responders, staff, and community stakeholders. Successful candidates must be professional, dependable, observant, and capable of exercising sound judgment in both routine and emergency situations.
This is not a traditional security position. The role combines security responsibilities, community corrections supervision, crisis response, resident accountability, and detailed documentation.
Monitoring Officers are expected to actively monitor facility operations, conduct resident accountability checks, respond to emergencies, complete detailed documentation, and work collaboratively with nursing staff and management. This position requires professionalism, attention to detail, and active engagement throughout the shift.
SCHEDULE
This is a Full-Time Permanent Night Shift position.
Shift Hours:
- 7:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.
- 12-hour shifts
Rotation:
- Week 1 – Three (3) shifts
- Week 2 – Four (4) shifts
Employees work an average of 84 hours bi-weekly.
The schedule includes overnight shifts, weekends, holidays, and occasional special coverage requirements.
Applicants must be available to work overnight shifts on a permanent basis.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Resident Supervision and Accountability
- Monitor resident movement within the facility and community
- Verify resident sign-in and sign-out procedures
- Monitor curfews and resident accountability requirements
- Conduct resident room checks and well-being checks
- Ensure compliance with facility rules, expectations, and release conditions
Security and Facility Monitoring
- Monitor CCTV camera systems and security equipment
- Conduct interior and exterior patrols
- Monitor facility access points and visitor activity
- Maintain building security throughout the shift
- Respond to security concerns and unusual occurrences
Emergency Response and Crisis Management
- Respond to medical emergencies, behavioural incidents, and crisis situations
- Assist staff during emergency situations
- Follow established emergency procedures and protocols
- Communicate effectively with emergency responders and other stakeholders
Documentation and Reporting
- Complete detailed daily log entries
- Prepare incident reports and occurrence reports
- Document resident interactions and significant events accurately and professionally
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when handling sensitive information
Communication and Teamwork
- Work collaboratively with nursing staff, management, Parole Officers, and community partners
- Provide professional customer service while maintaining appropriate boundaries
- Communicate effectively with residents, visitors, staff, and emergency personnel
QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in Security, Corrections, Community Justice, Residential Services, Healthcare, Law Enforcement, or a related field
- Post-secondary education in Criminology, Police Foundations, Community and Justice Services, Social Service Work, Psychology, Social Work, Law and Security Administration, or a related discipline
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
Required Qualifications
- Previous security experience or relevant post-secondary education
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong report-writing and documentation skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to remain calm and professional in high-stress situations
- Strong observational and problem-solving skills
- Basic computer proficiency
Security Requirements
- Valid Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening
- Ability to obtain and maintain enhanced security clearance
- Willingness to provide fingerprints for security screening purposes
Preferred Certifications
- Standard First Aid and CPR Certification
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI)
- Mental Health First Aid
