Hours: 35 hours per week (Typically Monday to Friday 8:30 – 4:30)
Location: This full-time position offers competitive compensation and benefits. The successful candidate will work primarily from the HFN office in Campbell River, with occasional travel as required.
Salary: $27.00 - $34.00 per hour

JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), the Communications Coordinator will play a key role in the development and implementation of strategic communications that support Homalco First Nation’s (HFN) goals and initiatives. This role is vital in enhancing community engagement and managing our public image.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Communications
- Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy aligned with HFN’s objectives.
- Create content for various platforms, including website, social media, newsletters, and press releases.
- Coordinate HFN’s participation in speaking engagements and events.
Community Engagement
- Facilitate focus groups, committee meetings, and information sessions.
- Liaise with HFN members, Chief and Council, partner organizations, and other levels of government.
Media Relations
- Serve as the primary point of contact for media inquiries.
- Prepare press releases, media kits, and background materials.
- Monitor media coverage and maintain positive relationships with local media outlets.
Digital Communications
- Manage and update HFN’s website content.
- Oversee social media accounts and develop engaging content.
- Analyze digital analytics to inform communication strategies.
Event Planning
- Assist in planning and executing community events and special initiatives.
- Coordinate logistics, prepare materials, and manage event communications.
Emergency Communications
- Act as the public information officer during emergency events.
- Assist with and support the development and implementation of HFN’s crisis communication plans.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
- Strong understanding of HFN’s history, culture, and BC First Nations communities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in graphic design and social media management.
- Experience with website content management systems.
- Strong organizational and project management abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity.
- Excellent time management and ability to handle multiple priorities.
- Creativity and innovation in developing communications strategies.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and relevant design software.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, or related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in communications, preferably in a First Nations or government setting.
- Combination of education and experience may be considered.
LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS
- Valid BC 5 Driver’s License with ability to drive and provide a licensed vehicle for work purposes.
