Role Description This full-time, on-site Estimator role is based in Campbell River, BC. The Estimator will review drawings, specifications, and project documents to prepare accurate material take-offs, labor estimates, and cost breakdowns for welding and fabrication projects. On a daily basis, this role will analyze RFQs and bid packages, request and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotes, and develop detailed proposals and pricing sheets. The Estimator will collaborate with project managers, supervisors, and shop personnel to validate assumptions, assess build methods, and identify cost-saving opportunities. Additional responsibilities include maintaining estimating templates, updating cost databases, tracking awarded and lost bids, and supporting job handoffs to operations. The role also involves direct communication with clients to clarify scope, answer questions, and support strong long-term customer relationships.
Qualifications
- Experience in estimating for welding, metal fabrication, or construction projects, with the ability to interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
- Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills, including the ability to perform accurate material take-offs, labor calculations, and cost comparisons.
- Proficiency with basic office and estimating tools (e.g., Excel or similar spreadsheets, email, PDF markup); experience with specialized estimating or CAD software is an asset.
- Knowledge of welding processes, metal types, fabrication methods, and shop/field workflows, or a willingness to learn these quickly.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare organized proposals and collaborate effectively with clients, vendors, and internal teams.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities, including managing multiple bids, deadlines, and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Commitment to safety, quality, and ethical business practices, with attention to detail and accuracy in all work.
- Previous experience in a welding, fabrication, construction, or industrial environment is preferred; relevant technical training or a diploma in a related field is an asset.
- Ability to work on-site in Campbell River, BC, and to visit client sites or suppliers as needed.
