Position Overview
The Director of Broadcast, Communications & Digital Media is a senior leadership role responsible for managing all aspects of the Saints’ broadcast production, media relations, and digital presence. This individual will serve as the primary play-by-play voice of the Saints, while leading all game-day broadcast operations and driving the club’s communications and content strategy.
As the Saints continue to grow within the British Columbia Hockey League, this role is critical in elevating the organization’s brand, expanding its fan base in Spruce Grove and the greater Edmonton region, and delivering a first-class experience across all media platforms.
Key Responsibilities
1. Broadcast & Game Day Production
- Serve as the primary play-by-play broadcaster for all Saints games (home and away) across league streaming platforms and partner channels.
- Lead and direct the game-day broadcast team, including:
- o Color analysts
- o Producers
- o Camera operators
- o Technical crew
- Ensure all broadcasts meet or exceed BCHL production standards.
- Prepare comprehensive game notes, player storylines, and statistical analysis.
- Coordinate with league partners on broadcast delivery, scheduling, and compliance.
- Continuously enhance broadcast quality, storytelling, and fan engagement.
2. Communications & Media Relations
- Act as the primary media contact for the Saints.
- Develop and execute the club’s communications strategy aligned with team and league standards.
- Write and distribute:
- o Game previews and recaps
- o Press releases and player transactions
- o Feature stories and community content
- Coordinate media access for players, coaches, and management.
- Build strong working relationships with:
- o Local media in the Edmonton region
- o Provincial and national hockey outlets
- o BCHL communications staff
- Ensure consistent, professional, and timely messaging across all channels.
3. Digital Media & Content Strategy
- Oversee all Saints digital platforms, including:
- o Official team website
- o Social media channels (Instagram, X, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube)
- Develop a content calendar that drives engagement and fan growth.
- Lead the creation of:
- o Game highlights and recaps
- o Player features and interviews
- o Behind-the-scenes content
- o Promotional and sponsor-driven content
- Ensure all content aligns with team branding and sponsorship commitments.
- Track and analyze performance metrics to optimize content strategy.
4. Website & Information Management
- Maintain and update the Saints’ official website with:
- o News, game recaps, and player updates
- o Rosters, statistics, and schedules
- o Ticketing and promotional information
- Ensure the website is current, accurate, and engaging for fans and stakeholders.
- Collaborate with ticketing and sponsorship teams to support revenue initiatives.
5. Brand Development & Community Engagement
- Serve as a key storyteller and public voice of the Saints organization.
- Strengthen the Saints brand within Spruce Grove and surrounding communities.
- Support community initiatives, appearances, and grassroots engagement efforts.
- Contribute to in-game presentation and fan experience enhancements.
6. Leadership & Team Development
- Recruit, train, and manage broadcast and digital media staff, including interns and volunteers.
- Establish workflows, schedules, and expectations for both game-day and content production.
- Foster a creative, professional, and high-performance culture.
- Manage broadcast and digital budgets where applicable.
Qualifications & Experience
- Experience in sports broadcasting, with play-by-play experience strongly preferred.
- Background in communications, journalism, or digital media.
- Experience in live event production (sports preferred).
- Strong understanding of:
- o Social media platforms and content trends
- o Video editing and content creation tools
- o Website content management systems
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work a junior hockey schedule, including evenings, weekends, and travel.
