Bring your aptitude in disability management, employment accommodation and return to work to the Ontario Public Service (OPS) Treasury Board Secretariat. You will be responsible for providing best practices in disability management, facilitating occupational and non-occupational return to work and employment accommodation; managing case files by researching and gathering all relevant material, including confidential health-related information; and supporting program development, implementation and management.

The
Disability Accommodation Specialist provides expert advisory services related to return to work planning and disability employment accommodation. The role supports employees and organizational stakeholders by guiding medically informed and sustainable employment accommodation and return to work solutions. Acting as a subject matter expert, you will advise on complex cases, seek and review health information for disability employment accommodation and return to work.
In this role you will:
- serve as a lead advisor on return to work planning for employees recovering from illness, injury, or disability
- assess medical and functional information to advise on safe, appropriate employment accommodation, and timely return to work options
- guide clients on graduated, modified, transitional, and complex disability management cases
- collaborate with managers, Human Resource/Labour Relation partners, employees, unions (where applicable), and healthcare professionals
- advise on complex employment accommodation and return to work barriers, including permanent limitations and non standard work situations
- support decision making by identifying risks, options, and mitigation strategies related to employment accommodation and return to work cases
- you have employment accommodation and return to work case management expertise with ability to interpret medical information and identify rehabilitation/accommodation options
- you have knowledge of and ability to interpret human resources and labour relations policies, principles, techniques, collective agreements and legislation related to disability management
- you have knowledge of confidentiality and privacy issues related to personal health information and relevant trends and developments to influence or suggest improvements to programs and processes
- you are proficient with computers and have knowledge of software applications to manage case data, prepare reports, presentations, briefing materials, and complex research materials
- you have consultation and negotiation skills to provide expert advice on sensitive employment accommodation and return to work matters
- you have ability to deal professionally with a broad range of clients and stakeholders, including employees, managers, health professionals and bargaining agents
- you have communication skills to develop and present reports, recommendations, proposed guidelines and best practices, and draft procedures, briefing notes, and educational materials
- you have experience researching and analyzing case information to develop effective case management strategies, initiatives and solutions to support case resolution and legislative/program compliance
- you have project management and evaluation skills to participate on project teams
- you use analytical skills to determine and recommend appropriate action, interpret health-related information, deal with issues, and identify barriers to case resolution
- you are skilled at planning, organizing and coordinating work priorities with related areas and within operational and legislative deadlines
