Founded in 1996, we have built our reputation by providing professional workmanship, honest recommendations, and exceptional customer service. As our fireplace service division continues to grow, we are looking for an experienced Senior Gas Fireplace Service & Repair Technician to join our team.
This position is intended for a highly skilled technician who can confidently diagnose, service, and repair a wide range of residential gas fireplaces.
Position Overview
The Senior Gas Fireplace Service & Repair Technician will be responsible for completing fireplace inspections, maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs in customers’ homes.
The successful candidate will have strong technical knowledge, excellent troubleshooting abilities, and at least five years of direct gas fireplace service experience. You must be comfortable working independently, explaining findings to customers, and providing professional repair recommendations.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair residential gas fireplaces
- Perform complete fireplace maintenance, cleaning, and safety inspections
- Troubleshoot ignition problems, pilot issues, flame irregularities, shutdowns, and intermittent operation
- Diagnose gas valves, thermocouples, thermopiles, ignition modules, control boards, switches, remotes, blowers, and electrical components
- Inspect burners, pilot assemblies, venting systems, fireboxes, glass, logs, liners, and safety components
- Test gas pressures, electrical readings, combustion performance, and fireplace operation
- Identify improper installations, venting concerns, gas-supply issues, and safety hazards
- Service both natural gas and propane fireplace systems
- Work on equipment from a variety of major fireplace manufacturers
- Provide customers with clear explanations of findings and recommended repairs
- Prepare accurate estimates and repair recommendations
- Document all work with detailed service notes, photographs, equipment information, and test results
- Identify required replacement parts and communicate parts information to the office
- Complete repairs professionally and efficiently while protecting the customer’s home
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
- Follow all applicable manufacturer instructions, gas codes, and safety requirements
- Support and provide technical guidance to junior technicians when required
Required Qualifications
- Minimum five years of direct gas fireplace service and repair experience
- Valid Class B Gas Fitter certification or higher
- Strong knowledge of gas fireplace operation, controls, components, and venting
- Advanced diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to read wiring diagrams, installation manuals, and service documentation
- Ability to use electrical meters, manometers, and other diagnostic equipment
- Valid BC driver’s licence with a clean driving record
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Professional appearance and customer-service skills
- Ability to work independently and manage a full service schedule
- Ability to safely lift and carry tools, fireplace components, and glass assemblies
- Legally authorized to work in Canada
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with brands such as Valor, Regency, Napoleon, Heat & Glo, Enviro, Montigo, Majestic, Marquis, Kingsman, Mendota, and Kozy Heat
- Experience diagnosing direct-vent and natural-draft fireplace systems
- Experience with fireplace installation, venting, and commissioning
- Knowledge of current BC gas codes and Technical Safety BC requirements
- Experience using Housecall Pro or similar field-service software
- Experience training or mentoring apprentice and junior technicians
Compensation
- $50–$60 per hour
- Compensation will be determined based on fireplace experience, certifications, diagnostic ability, and overall technical expertise
