About the Position
Stoney Health Services is seeking a compassionate and dependable Health Care Aide (HCA) to join our multidisciplinary Home and Community Care team.
The HCA provides basic health services and assistance with activities of daily living for clients who may have chronic or complex medical conditions, physical or cognitive disabilities, significant functional limitations, or palliative and end-of-life care needs.
Care is provided primarily in client homes and community settings throughout Mînî Thnî.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist clients with bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, personal hygiene, feeding, mobility, and exercise.
- Support clients in maintaining independence and participating in their own care.
- Assist with approved light housekeeping, meal preparation, and social supports when included in the client's care plan.
- Provide palliative, end-of-life, and comfort-focused support within the HCA scope of practice.
- Observe clients and promptly report changes in physical condition, cognition, behaviour, mobility, comfort, skin integrity, safety, or other concerns.
- Support approved health routines, chronic disease management, wellness activities, and home exercise programs.
- Assist with authorized medication-related supports, treatments, equipment, and other health services within the HCA scope of practice and assigned care plan.
- Follow infection prevention, occupational health and safety, privacy, and emergency procedures.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential client documentation.
- Communicate respectfully with clients, families, caregivers, Elders, colleagues, and community members.
- Participate in community outreach, health promotion, Elders programming, and culturally grounded wellness activities.
Qualifications
Required:
- Graduate of a recognized Health Care Aide certificate/diploma program or approved equivalent pathway.
- Current registration/practice permit with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider certification.
- Current Class 4 Alberta Driver's Licence and clean driving record.
- Criminal Record Check as a condition of employment.
- WHMIS and Transportation of Dangerous Goods certification, as required.
Preferred:
- Minimum one year of experience in home care, community care, continuing care, or a related field.
- Experience with or interest in Indigenous health, Stoney Nakoda culture, cultural safety, and trauma-informed care.
- Experience working respectfully with Elders, families, and Indigenous communities.
- Strong judgment, communication, organization, documentation, and time-management skills.
Working Conditions
This is a community-based position with work taking place in client homes, Stoney Health Services sites, vehicles, and other community settings.
The role requires travel throughout the Mînî Thnî community, physical assistance with client care, driving responsibilities, confidentiality, reliable attendance, and flexibility in responding to changing client needs.
