About the Castlegar & District Chamber of Commerce
The Castlegar & District Chamber of Commerce is a dynamic, community-focused organization that supports tourism, economic development, business growth, physician recruitment, newcomer attraction, and community engagement throughout Castlegar and the surrounding region.
Operating from the Confluence of Tourism & Economic Development, our organization is home to the West Kootenay Gateway Visitor Centre, Destination Castlegar, the Castlegar & District Economic Development Partnership, the Welcome & Connect Ambassador Program, Physician Recruitment, meeting and co-working facilities, and a retail gift shop.
We are seeking an energetic, customer-focused individual who enjoys working with people and takes pride in representing our community.
Position Summary
As a Part-Time Visitor Centre Counsellor / Confluence Building Assistant, you will be one of the first people visitors, businesses, newcomers, and community members meet when they visit our organization.
This is a varied position that combines visitor services, facility operations, retail sales, administration, tourism promotion, and community engagement. You will assist with the day-to- day operations of the Confluence Building while supporting a variety of Chamber initiatives and programs.
Schedule
Minimum of two weekdays per week (Monday–Friday 9am to 5pm)
Additional hours available on an on-call basis
Flexibility to work evenings and weekends for events and programs is preferred
Qualifications
We're looking for someone who has:
Previous customer service experience
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
A positive, professional, and welcoming attitude
Strong knowledge of Castlegar and the surrounding region, or a willingness to learn
A passion for promoting the community and serving as a local ambassador
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and general computer applications
Experience with social media platforms
Basic website editing and content management skills
Strong organizational and time management skills
The ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team
Cash handling and retail experience is an asset
Tourism, hospitality, event, or administrative experience is considered an asset
Responsibilities
Visitor Services
Welcome visitors and provide exceptional customer service.
Share information about local attractions, accommodations, restaurants, recreation, events, transportation, and regional experiences.
Promote local businesses and encourage visitors to extend their stay.
Collect visitor statistics and maintain tourism resources.
Maintain brochure displays and promotional materials.
Confluence Building Operations
Support the daily operations of the Confluence of Tourism & Economic Development.
Assist clients using meeting rooms, event spaces, and co-working facilities.
Prepare meeting and event spaces before and after bookings.
Help ensure the building remains welcoming, organized, and professional.
Chamber Programs & Community Services
Support the Welcome & Connect Ambassador Program by welcoming newcomers and connecting them with local services, businesses, and community resources.
Assist with tourism initiatives, economic development activities, physician recruitment efforts, and Chamber programs as required.
Help coordinate community events, networking activities, and special projects.
Respond to inquiries from businesses, residents, visitors, and prospective investors.
Retail & Administrative Support
Process retail sales and assist customers in the gift shop.
Maintain inventory and merchandise displays.
Update event listings, website content, and social media platforms.
Perform general administrative duties, including answering phones, responding to emails, filing, and data entry.
