The Registered Nurse (RN) provides provincially standardized education and training to health care workers, clients and families using provincial education resources for procedures and techniques. They facilitate and provide provincial programs and protocols including auditing, immunization and outbreak management. The position provides leadership, consultation and coordination of activities which contribute to prevention and control of nosocomial, community acquired, and occupational infections for clients, staff, physicians, and volunteers.
The RN investigates and assists in identifying and tracing possible sources of infection and initiates/proposes preventative and corrective measures.
Clinical Practice
· Determines the need and eligibility for clients to participate in Programs and/or make referrals for further investigation/care to appropriate health and social care programs and services
· Complete the intake of clients into programs by completing a comprehensive health history and focused health assessments using a holistic framework relevant to the client’s needs, social support network, language and culture.
· In collaboration with client and family and other multidisciplinary team members, develop an integrated care plan based on evidenced-based practices
· Monitor the effectiveness of client care in collaboration and consultation with the client and other appropriate health care providers or support services
· Counsel and educate clients on symptom management, health maintenance and rehabilitation strategies as well as risk factors and promoting positive lifestyle change
· Align program resources with other health care agencies including but not limited to home care/primary care/acute care without duplication of services
Leadership
· Identify clinical practice issues affecting patient safety quality outcomes and implement best practice
· Use current literature/research and performance indicators to support evidence-based practice
· Adhere to routine precautions and infection prevention and control techniques according to facility policy
· Proactively seek professional development opportunities for themselves and others
· Attend and/or participate in programs to reinforce nursing education and to remain current with developments and changing trends in the nursing field
· Mentor and /or preceptor students, beginning practitioners and practicing nurses by demonstrating care and treatment techniques, explaining routines, and sharing specialized nursing experiences
· Maintain a psychologically and physically safe environment and report all safety hazards
· Document client care activities consistent with policy, system requirements and scope of employment
· Participate in the overall planning and evaluation of programs and services
· Collaborate in the development and revision of written provincial policies and procedures, treatment techniques and work procedures
Statement Of Qualifications
· Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or Diploma in Nursing with extensive experience in the clinical area may be considered.
· Must be eligible to complete certification programs specific to the area of practice (i.e. IPAC, OHS, Employee Health).
· Considerable experience (3-5 yrs) directly related to nursing practice area and knowledge of the provincial health system including primary care, home care and community-based programs
· Experience in supervisor, planning, educator and consultant roles
· Some positions require demonstrated successful experience in the education of adult learners
· Active or eligible for registration with the Prince Edward Island College of Nursing & Midwifery

External candidates may be eligible to receive a $8,000 Nursing Incentive, plus a $5,000 Rural or $8,000 Student Loan Incentive depending on location of employment. To be eligible for recruitment incentives candidates must hold a 1.0 FTE, this can be a full-time role or a combination of part-time positions. Relocation Assistance may be available to part or full-time candidates.
Salary Range: $42.77 - $52.61 per hour (RN3)
Bi-Weekly Hours: 75 Hours Bi-Weekly / Rotating 8 Hr Shifts, On-Call, Every 2nd Weekend
