Summary:

Dalton Associates (DA) is a mental health services organization. With a dynamic team of over 85 employees and over 150 clinicians, DA provides specialized and quality assured, psychological, psychotherapy, social work, and behavioural health services that are culturally sensitive, safe, accessible, and timely throughout the province of Ontario.

Grounded in Dr. Dalton’s personal history of living and working in northern communities, this important work reflects a longstanding commitment to understanding the realities, strengths, and needs of the North. As President and Founder of Dalton Associates, Dr. Dalton’s early experiences in the region laid the foundation for an approach rooted in respect, relationship-building, and community responsiveness. Over the past several years, Dalton Associates has been honoured to develop strong partnerships with Indigenous communities and regional councils across northern Ontario to support the development of regional and community-based mental health and wellness programs tailored to the unique needs of each community and region. We offer mental health and wellness–related community and program development support, as well as direct services delivered by regulated and experienced master’s-level mental health professionals who are committed to ensuring a culturally safe approach in their work.

Contract Summary

Dalton Associates is seeking a passionate and experienced Physiotherapist (PT) to join our team as an Independent Contractor, providing culturally responsive physiotherapy services to children and youth in remote First Nations communities across Northern Ontario.

This unique opportunity involves monthly travel to fly-in communities for approximately five (5) days of in-community service, plus two (2) travel days, and one to two (1–2) days per week of virtual service delivery. Services will be delivered primarily in school settings, supporting students with gross motor, mobility, physical development, and functional needs.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver school-based physiotherapy assessments and interventions tailored to the needs of children and youth.
Support students’ gross motor development, mobility, strength, coordination, and functional participation in the school environment.
Collaborate with educators, caregivers, and community members to support student success.
Provide virtual follow-up sessions, consultation, and treatment guidance between community visits.
Develop and monitor individualized physiotherapy plans and home/school exercise programs.
Maintain accurate documentation and reporting in alignment with program standards.
Contribute to culturally safe and trauma-informed care practices.

Qualifications

Master’s degree in Physiotherapy (or equivalent).
Registered and in good standing with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario (CPO).
Experience working with children and youth in school and/or community settings.
Ability to travel monthly to remote fly-in communities (travel logistics coordinated).
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) and electronic documentation systems.
Strong ability to navigate community resources and remain informed of emerging best practices.
Demonstrated ability to build professional, respectful, and trusting relationships with diverse partners.
Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage competing priorities.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Experience in remote, rural, or northern service delivery is an asset.
Familiarity with trauma-informed and culturally responsive care models.
Personal and/or professional experience working with First Nations communities is strongly preferred.
Knowledge of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and holistic approaches to wellness.
Knowledge of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and wholistic approaches to wellness.
Candidates from local First Nations communities are strongly encouraged to apply and will be considered an asset.
Fluency in Cree, Ojibway, or Oji-Cree is considered a strong asset.

Pay: $800.00 per day
