Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care is a 315-bed academic and teaching hospital that provides specialized mental health, addiction and geriatric care. Located on the shores of Georgian Bay, we serve some of the most complex and disadvantaged individuals in Ontario and are the sole provider of high-secure forensic mental health services in the province.
The Manager, HR Operations & Employee Health & Safety, is currently seeking a temporary full-time Human Resources Assistant. The purpose of this position is to provide support to the hospital in all aspects of human resources services and functions as the point of contact for staff related to onboarding, benefits and pension administration, leaves of absence, transfers, retirements, and other employee lifecycle events.
Note: This position offers a hybrid work environment consisting of in-office and remote work. Office location is 500 Church Street, Penetanguishene, Ontario.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Provide HR customer service by advising staff on policies, programs, and processes across the full employee lifecycle.

Advise employees and management on pension and retirement plans and support enrolments and retirements by completing documentation and guiding employees through the process.

Coordinate HR onboarding by documenting employment, collecting required documentation, and providing guidance on compensation, benefits, pensions, and other employment items.

Administer employee benefit plans by supporting employees, managing enrolments and changes, and auditing records to ensure accuracy and resolve discrepancies.

Provide guidance on leaves of absence, ensuring compliance with legislation, collective agreements, and organizational policies, and advising on benefits and pension impacts.

Collaborate with Financial and Staffing Services to support salary administration, process employee changes and resolve discrepancies.

Respond to internal and external inquiries, including legal and third-party claims, through clear and professional written and verbal communication.

Maintain and enhance HR processes by ensuring legislative compliance, monitoring outcomes, and implementing continuous improvements based on stakeholder feedback.

Plan and deliver information sessions by coordinating with internal and external partners and developing communication strategies to promote awareness, understanding, and participation.

Support HR projects and initiatives by assisting team members and participating in committees, work groups, and task forces.
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

Post-secondary education, preferably at the Bachelor’s degree level, in a related field such as Human Resources, Business, Psychology/Mental Health or Health Care/Public Administration (Required)

Specialized training/education in the Human Resources Management function (Required)

1-2 years working experience preferably in Human Resources (Required)

Experience within the healthcare sector or a unionized environment, with a strong understanding of human resources/talent management best practices (Preferred)

Experience with compensation and benefit plans including pension, benefit and pay administration (Preferred)

Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills

Demonstrated ability to proactively identify and resolve issues while effectively adapting to changing priorities with resilience

Strong skills in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint);

Preference for proficiency in French/English language skills
