The Strong families program, under contract by Children's Services, uses Signs of Safety and strengths-based approach, to support youth & families in Cold Lake and area with developing healthy interpersonal skills, self-esteem, conflict management, parenting, home management, financial skills, and overcoming barriers such as addictions and mental health.
In Your Role You Will
- Travel in your own vehicle (mileage reimbursed ) to family homes and communities in the service area.
- Determine family needs/develop goal-based service plans through assessments and discussions with the youth/families.
- Record and report client progress.
- Provide resources and model - communication, boundaries, behavior management, child development, effective problem solving or other relevant information related to outlined client goals
- Support children & families to connect with community resources/programs (recreation, child care, employment supports & job coaching, addictions support, family counselling, etc.) to build a support network for future growth and success.
- Advocate for clients when appropriate
The Position
The Family Support Worker works directly with families, youth, children and adults to facilitate home and community visits aimed at strengthening and preserving families. Family Support Workers convene and facilitate family care teams to provide support and ensure best outcomes.
Scheduling:
One (1) temporary full-time position that will work 40 hours per week;
- 0830-1630 Monday through Friday.
- Position will require flexibility, in order to support families during evenings & weekends to accommodate children & family schedules and supporting supervised visitation.
- The duration of the position is dependent on the incumbent and is estimated to be approximately 12 months.
Preference for qualified Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit and Metis) applicants with strong cultural ties to the community.
**Qualification requirements deem this to be Family Support Worker level 2.**

***Prior to confirmation of employment, all applicants must provide a copy of a current Criminal Record Check and/or Government Screening Letter. These checks vary depending on province and sector and will be communicated by the Program Hiring Team.
As An Ideal Candidate You Possess
- A passion for working with families within your community
- Diploma or Bachelor Degree in Social Work, Child and Youth Care, Social Service Worker, Addictions, etc.
- 2+ years social work experience in family supports, intervention, youth work, trauma informed care, addictions, kinship/foster care, etc.
- Valid Driver’s License, reliable vehicle with appropriate insurance, and clean driver’s abstract
- Awareness of applicable community resources to meet client needs
- Knowledge of indigenous culture is an asset
- Experience working with computer software systems
- Highly motivated and able to work independently
Due to the use of company vehicles, applicants must be at least 22 years of age, have a minimum of 3 years of driving experience, and have no more than 2 demerit points on their license. A current driver’s abstract is required.
