Production Line Lead
This is a unionized position with UFCW-1518
Salary: $24.93
Shift Schedule: Monday to Friday , two shifts available:
06:00 am to 02:30 pm
12:00 pm to 08:30 pm
The Role
Reporting to the Production Supervisors, you will be responsible for keeping the production line safe and running smoothly. You’ll organize daily team tasks while following established standards for safety, productivity, cost control, and product quality to meet production targets and deadlines.
As a hands-on, proactive leader, you’ll support continuous improvement, help improve processes and standards, and ensure all company policies and procedures are followed, including OHS, GMP, and HACCP requirements.
Main Responsibilities
- Responsible for the initial washing, sorting and packing of raw baby leaf lettuce
- Organize the production line; participate in the evaluation of manpower requirement, equipment and components in order to meet the expected performance
- Evaluate the time required to execute the production schedule
- Provide communication to the supervisor; help with the production schedule and maintenance
- Evaluate production expectations in order to understand the stages of production and its needs
- Perform the inventory count to make ensure sufficient components are available
- Raise issues, problems and/or production anomalies and participate in the resolution
- Meet delivery deadlines, quality expectations, manufacturing standards, productivity targets and accurately record all required information during and at the end of each shift
- Participate in the assessment of manpower requirements and distribute assignments and responsibilities according to the skills of the assigned staff
- Ensure that the production staff on the line are adequately trained in relation to the assigned tasks, and that the work done is in accordance with all company policies and procedures, reporting any discrepancies
- Maximize daily positive impact on employees by ensuring a sustained and regular presence
- Communicate any employee problem requiring disciplinary action to the Production Supervisor and provide follow up feedback
- Check the performance of employees on a regular basis; assess training needs, and follow-up with the Production Supervisor
- Ensure that employees work safely and respect the established dress code and the wearing of mandatory protective equipment
- Rotate breaks with other production lines as required
- Ensure compliance with GMPs, policies and standards established by the company
Qualifications, Skills, and Requirements
- High school diploma
- Experience in team leadership (2+ years)
- Relevant experience in a production environment
- Able to work in a 3°C environment with allergens present: (dairy, nuts, wheat etc.)
- Ability to work standing in a refrigerated and humid environment completing repetitive work
- Ability to lift loads up to 50 Ibs (some workstations), push heavy loads and climb stairs repeatedly
- Detail-oriented to ensure proper completion of paperwork and forms
- Self-starter demonstrating initiative and autonomy in a fast-paced environment
- Be a role model to other staff. Positive attitude, punctual, diligent, versatile and methodical
- Excellent communication with co-workers and supervisors
- Be able to motivate your team and communicate constructively and positively
- React effectively to situations while considering safety, quality and production expectations
- Mechanically inclined
- Experience in production equipment operation, automated systems, machine maintenance or other relevant training is an asset
- Knowledge of HACCP standards is an asset
