Position Summary
We are seeking a Health & Safety Coordinator to join our team. The Health & Safety Coordinator is responsible for providing professional health and safety support across construction projects and rebar installation activities.
This is a field-focused position requiring regular site visits, workplace inspections, hazard assessments, incident investigations, worker engagement, and support for supervisors and project teams. The successful candidate will have strong knowledge of construction health and safety requirements and practical experience identifying and controlling hazards associated with reinforcing steel installation and general construction activities.
The Health & Safety Coordinator will work closely with senior management, superintendents, supervisors, forepersons, workers, subcontractors, and clients to promote safe work practices and ensure compliance with applicable health and safety legislation, project requirements, and established company safety programs.
We are looking for someone who is available to start as soon as possible. Experience in rebar, steel, or general construction is strongly preferred. Bilingual candidates are preferred.
This position requires regular travel to active construction projects across the GTA, with principal sites located in Bowmanville, Downtown Toronto, and Newmarket.

Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits on active construction projects to identify hazards, unsafe work practices, and regulatory non-compliance.
- Provide field-level health and safety support to superintendents, supervisors, forepersons, and workers, and recommend practical corrective actions to address identified hazards.
- Monitor compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and applicable Regulations, client requirements, and established company health and safety policies and procedures.
- Assist with the development and review of health and safety policies, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Safe Work Procedures, and other COR-related requirements.
- Provide health and safety guidance related to rebar installation, hoisting and rigging, telehandlers, MEWPs, working at heights, material handling, mobile equipment, and other construction activities.
- Conduct and support investigations of workplace incidents, injuries, near misses, property damage, and other safety events, including identifying root causes and developing corrective actions.
- Conduct worker orientations, toolbox talks, safety meetings, and other health and safety training.
- Coach supervisors and forepersons on their health and safety responsibilities and promote a strong safety culture across project teams.
- Support the implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the occupational health and safety management system, including COR requirements, training matrices, internal audits, and corrective action plans.
- Prepare and maintain professional health and safety documentation, including inspection reports, investigation reports, safety communications, procedures, statistics, trend analyses, and performance reports.
- Assist with government security clearance processes, including preparing, reviewing, submitting, and tracking required security screening documentation.
- Coordinate with employees and relevant government departments regarding security clearance requirements and application status.
- Maintain accurate and confidential security clearance records and follow up on applications and outstanding requirements.
- Perform other health and safety duties and projects as required.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2–5 years of health and safety experience in the construction industry.
- Experience in rebar, reinforcing steel, structural steel, structural concrete, heavy civil, industrial, or high-rise construction is strongly preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and applicable Regulations.
- Experience conducting workplace inspections, hazard assessments, and incident investigations.
- Experience developing or reviewing Safe Work Procedures and Job Hazard Analyses.
- Knowledge of COR requirements is considered a strong asset.
- NCSO, CRSP, CHSC, or equivalent health and safety designation is considered an asset.
- Bilingual in English and French is preferred.
- Valid driver’s licence and ability to travel regularly to active construction projects across the GTA.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with project teams, management, workers, and clients.
- Practical, solutions-oriented approach to identifying hazards and implementing effective corrective actions.
- Must be available to start as soon as possible.

Work Location

Regular travel to active construction projects is required, with principal project locations in Bowmanville, Downtown Toronto, and Newmarket.
Candidates must have a valid driver’s licence and be able to reliably travel to various project locations.
