ABOUT LOWFREIGHTRATE.CA
Lowfreightrate.ca is a Canadian freight brokerage and logistics solutions provider committed to delivering competitive, reliable shipping options for businesses across North and south America. We combine industry expertise with a client-first approach to simplify freight — from first quote to final delivery. As we scale, we need a seasoned operations leader who can run the floor, manage a distributed remote team, and bring real shipping line relationships and knowledge to the table.

THE OPPORTUNITY
This role is first and foremost an operations leadership position. You'll own the day-to-day execution of our freight operations — managing both our in-office team in North York and our offshore back-office staff — while also playing a supporting role on the commercial side by leveraging your existing experience with shipping line sales reps to help secure better rates and capacity for our clients. If you're an operator at heart who also knows how to work a room at a carrier office, we want to hear from you.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
Operations — Primary Focus
- Oversee all freight operations including booking management, documentation, carrier coordination, customs, and exception handling
- Directly manage and develop the in-office operations team in North York
- Provide day-to-day direction, quality oversight, and performance management to the offshore back-office team
- Design, implement, and continuously improve SOPs, SLAs, and KPIs across all shipment types
- Act as the primary escalation point for operational issues — own resolution end to end
- Ensure shipment data integrity and compliance with documentation standards
- Identify bottlenecks and drive process improvements that increase throughput and reduce error rates
- Collaborate with pricing and carrier teams to ensure operational feasibility on new business
Sales Support — Secondary Focus
- Leverage your existing relationships with shipping line sales reps to negotiate capacity, rates, and service terms on behalf of clients
- Support account executives in client meetings where operational credibility and carrier knowledge are required
- Monitor account health and flag upsell or service improvement opportunities to the commercial team
- Assist in onboarding new accounts by scoping operational requirements and setting up execution frameworks
Team Leadership
- Build a performance culture across onshore and offshore teams grounded in accountability and clear communication
- Coach team members and support their professional development
- Report to senior leadership on team performance, operational metrics, and capacity planning

WHAT YOU BRING
Required
- Minimum 4 years of experience in freight forwarding, freight brokerage, or a related logistics role
- Proven track record running freight operations — you've owned execution, not just supported it
- Established working relationships with sales reps at one or more ocean shipping lines (e.g. MSC, Maersk, CMA CGM, Hapag-Lloyd, Evergreen, or similar)
- Demonstrated experience managing both in-person and remote/offshore teams
- Experience managing offshore ops or back-office teams specifically
- Familiarity with TMS platforms, freight quoting tools, or CRM systems
- Strong knowledge of freight documentation, customs requirements, and carrier operations for North American and international freight
- Highly organized with a process-first mindset and a track record of building or improving SOPs
- Clear, confident communicator — able to hold teams accountable and represent the company externally
- Must be able to commute to our North York office 5 days a week
Nice to Have
- Prior experience at a freight brokerage or digital freight platform
- Air freight operations knowledge in addition to ocean
