Overview
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Bike Mechanic to join our team starting this summer, but with a candidate who is interested in working full-year during the winter when our shop transitions to ski & snowboard service and skate sharpening.
The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of experience repairing all things related to bicycles, a strong background in working with a variety of tools and a passion for problem-solving. This role is essential to ensuring the smooth operation of our bicycle repair segment during the spring & summer and our ski/snowboard service business through the fall & winter.
If you have been around bike shops or ski shops for a long time and have learned everything there is to know about bicycle maintenance and repairs, and have an interest in working year round at a shop, this a unique opportunity to work in an environment where you will get to take ownership, run the daily operations of the shop and benefit helping to create the growth and success of the bike repair segment.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Daily operations of our family run, mid-town Toronto sports store
- Inspect, repair and service bikes of all kinds
- Assembling/ disassembling different types of bicycles
- Repair, tune, and maintain ski & snowboard equipment, including waxing, sharpening, binding installations & adjustments.
- Intake and sharpen skates using our CAGOne Automated Skate Sharpener
- Process orders for parts, supplies and manage inventory
- Oversee and coach part-time employees (when present)
- Adhere to & proactively improve our standard work procedures to continually improve overall productivity
- Responsible for a clean work environment and safe work practices
- Be able to make decisions based on knowledge and experience
- Respond to directives from the management team
- All other duties as assigned
Bike specific requirements
- Experience in all things related to bicycle repairs including but not limited to wheel building, truing, tire changing, crank arm replacement, changing derailleurs, headset overhaul, chain check and replacement, Changing brakes, shift levers and cables, etc. E-bike experience is an asset.
Winter requirements
- Repair and maintain ski and snowboard equipment while maintaining accurate service records for all work undertaken and completed.
- Able to learn product information and effectively and pleasantly guide customers through questions and buying decisions
- When needed, be able to understand, recommend, and provide skate sharpening services to customers based on their needs and preferences.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds
- Must be available to work a varied schedule of days, evenings, weekends.
- Must have great personal skills, written and verbal communication skills, decision making and organizational skills
- Advanced knowledge of parts and maintenance procedures
- 3-5 years of proven experience as a Bicycle Mechanic is required (references requested and verified)
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, tools, and equipment.
- Familiarity with diagnostic equipment and repair tools.
- Ability to read technical manuals and schematics effectively.
- Interest in skiing, snowboarding and/or hockey, skating.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work well in a team environment.
