Full job description

The Line Cook at the Screaming Goat Café is an essential role, responsible for preparing high-quality food, supporting smooth kitchen operations, and helping to deliver the warm, welcoming experience guests expect at Haute Goat. Reporting to the Café Operations Lead, this position requires a passion for food, attention to detail, and a strong work ethic. The successful candidate will demonstrate consistency, reliability, and a positive attitude in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. A Food Handling Certificate is required prior to the first day of employment.

Compensation: This position includes a competitive hourly wage and tips.

Key Responsibilities

Kitchen & Food Preparation:

Prepare and cook menu items according to standardized recipes and presentation guidelines.
Ensure all food leaving the kitchen is fresh, properly portioned, and beautifully presented.
Assist with food prep tasks such as chopping, portioning, marinating, and baking as needed.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of all prep areas, workstations, and equipment.
Support the Chef in daily kitchen operations and special events, including prep and plating.
Monitor inventory levels and alert the kitchen lead or Café Operations Lead to shortages or issues.
Ensure proper labeling, storage, and rotation of all ingredients and prepped items.

Health & Safety:

Follow food safety and sanitation procedures at all times.
Adhere to kitchen hygiene standards including cleaning tasks, dishwashing, and waste disposal.
Participate in daily and weekly cleaning routines as assigned.
Immediately report any equipment issues, injuries, or safety concerns.

Team Support & Communication:

Arrive on time, ready to work, with a positive attitude.
Collaborate with front-of-house staff to ensure food is delivered in a timely and accurate manner.
Respond to feedback and adapt to shifting needs during service.
Maintain a calm, professional demeanor during busy periods.

Skills and Qualifications:

Previous kitchen or line cook experience preferred (but willing to train the right candidate).
Valid Food Handling Certificate (required before first shift).
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining quality and accuracy.
Good communication skills and ability to take direction.
Strong time-management and multitasking abilities.
Passion for great food and interest in local, farm-fresh ingredients.
Availability to work weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings for special events.
