Full job description

Our client, a legacy, high-volume innovator in automotive manufacturing is seeking a collaborative and strategic Capital & Tooling Buyer to join its corporate head office team located in North York, ON. This role offers the opportunity to work from home 2 days/week following the first 6 months of full-time on-site presence.

The Job:

Reporting to the Senior Corp Procurement Manager, the Capital & Tooling Buyer is responsible for the sourcing and management of all capital and tooling purchases, working as part of a cross-functional team with Engineering, Quality and manufacturing plants.
The incumbent will be a major participant / leader in new business launches and continuous improvement activities related to capital and tooling.
The main objective of the role is to negotiate the best deal possible whilst ensuring our suppliers provide quality goods.

Relationship Management:

Work collaboratively and engage with stakeholders and suppliers regarding new projects
Stay current and up to date on any changes that may affect the supply and demand of needed products and materials and advise others of any impact
Attend meetings and update others on issues or concerns, in particular when there is a risk which could prevent the organisation meeting customer demands
Support product change requests and review and communicate the impact on capacity plans
Build, maintain and manage supplier relationships and ensure good communications
Ensure that a professional and consistent approach is taken in relation to all relationships

Requirements:

High School Diploma plus Diploma or Degree in a related field is an asset
Proven purchasing experience preferably within the automotive industry focusing on capital and tooling function
Able to build and maintain effective and productive relationships with key stakeholders and suppliers
Strong negotiation, communication, presentation, interpersonal and influencing skills
Analytical, numerically astute with strong proven problem-solving abilities
Strong Excel skills
Strong technical knowledge and understanding of automotive processes, components and supply chain management
Able to occasionally travel domestically and to the USA
