The Position
We are looking for a well versed Mechanical Design Engineer to champion the design of cooling and fluid distribution systems in our line of modular containers. This includes pump and pipe sizings, as well as working with various vendors to acquire custom designed heat exchangers and dry coolers.
You will be working closely with our sheet metal manufacturing team to ensure a cohesive design and project execution in a fast paced environment, with rapidly changing goals and priorities.
Job Responsibilities
- Design mechanical systems related to HVAC, pumps, piping, and fluid distribution.
- Size and specify components such as pumps, fans, heat exchangers, valves, and fittings based on engineering calculations and simulations using tools such as Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) or fluid simulation software
- Perform basic thermal, flow, and pressure drop calculations.
- Support prototype testing, troubleshooting, and design refinement.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards.
- Design sheet-metal components and assemblies with appropriate gauges and tolerances, and work with manufacturing to ensure DFM/DFA suitability.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent. A P.Eng designation is an asset
Experience
- SolidWorks experience with mechanical assemblies; sheet-metal experience is an asset
- Strong understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics.
- Strong understanding of sheet metal design and manufacturing
- Familiarity with North American Design Standards and best practices is preferred and considered a strong asset for this role
Technical Skills
- Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks, including Sheet Metal Design, simulation, and complex assembly modelling
- Proficiency with fluid flow and thermal modeling software (e.g., CFD, ANSYS Fluent); capable of performing detailed simulations of airflow distribution, pressure drops, and heat transfer optimization
- Knowledge of fluid dynamics, hydraulics, and thermodynamics principles.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes, specifically with metal fabrication and HVAC assembly
Schedule
- Monday to Thursday, 8 am - 5 pm (onsite)
- Friday, 9 am - 2 pm (remote)
