Full job description

The Two Short Storeys Academy is excited to be hiring for a part-time Assistant Head Chef! We are thrilled to welcome a bright, talented, energetic, and experienced culinary leader to our established childcare academy.

Responsible for assisting in the kitchen, you work well under pressure and relish the opportunity to build on something already great.

Monday to Friday 730am-1pm (No evenings / weekends)

Job Summary

The Assistant Chef will assist in all kitchen operations and must have:

Competency in written and spoken english
Have a current Food Handlers certificate
Have a Vulnerable Sector Check (We can assist with this)

Duties include but are not limited to:

Doing dishes post cooking / lunch
Handling daycare laundry
Kitchen and equipment cleaning/sanitizing
Assist Chef with fruit and vegetable prep
Receiving orders
Baking
Packaging
Delivering meals to classrooms on-time
Eventually learn recipes and work to learn how to execute them

Duties and Responsibilities

o Preparing Morning and Afternoon snacks

o Prepare lunch, ensuring there are enough portions for each child based on age and allergy/food sensitivities

o Oversees stocking, ensuring that necessary ingredients are available and as fresh as possible while also minimizing spoilage and waste.

o Maintains and inspects kitchen equipment and utensils, recommending repairs or replacements as needed.

o Ensure safe storage for all food and materials, in addition to checking the foods prior to use for any signs of spoilage or mold (FIFO- First in First Out rule followed)

o Washing and sanitizing all dishes, cutlery, cooking utensils and materials using the dishwasher

Requirements

Extensive knowledge of food handling and sanitation standards.
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a Head Chef position
Food and beverage culinary management experience with demonstrated leadership.
Childcare cooking experience an asset
Effective decision-making skills.
Strong problem-solving skills.
Culinary Degree/Diploma is preferred.
Vulnerable Sector Screen (within 6 months)
