Who We Are
Launched in June 2022, the Anti-Racism Education Research Project is a grant-funded study that aims to understand how anti-racism education is produced and received in academic hospitals. The study’s new phase also explores how anti-racism and equity education is carried forward into the learning and working environments of the departments of Medicine and Psychiatry. It is a participatory research study with a large diverse collaborative team, many of whom are involved in the frontline of anti-racism advocacy, education and/or healthcare. It centers Indigenous and Black people, and includes other racialized people, who work, volunteer, and learn in academic hospital settings. The study team works in partnership with Indigenous and Black Data Governance Tables to ensure that our work benefits these hospital-based working communities.
Summary of duties include (but not limited to):
Work alongside team members to conduct and report the study, including:
- Assisting with the preparation of ethics applications and renewals
- Liaising with study investigators, members of the Black and Indigenous Data Governance Tables and other hospital staff to facilitate recruitment
- Conducting participant recruitment/enrollment and informed consent processes
- Performing data collection, maintenance, and analysis
- Providing research support with literature reviews
- Maintaining recruitment logs and study files to securely store, access, and retrieve data
- Scheduling and attending research meetings, including preparing agendas and meeting minutes
- Communicating with Principal, Co-Principal Investigators and the Black and Indigenous Data Governance Tables to provide updates
- Leading and/or assisting team members with preparing materials for proposals, presentations, progress reports and publications
- May support other research and knowledge translation activities if interested and time allows
Required qualifications:
- Undergraduate or graduate degree in social sciences and/or relevant field
- Firsthand knowledge and understanding of racialized peoples in Canada preferred
- Experience working with racialized people and communities in Canada
- Demonstrated qualitative and narrative interviewing, ethnographic observation, and analysis skills
- Ability to foster authentic, trusted relationships with a variety of people
- Ability to address problems and situations that might be uncomfortable
- Excellent verbal and written communications, interpersonal and critical thinking skills
- Excellent presentation and facilitation skills
- Ability to work well in a deadline-oriented and team-based environment with competing priorities
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Some flexibility to work between Monday to Friday, both in-person and online.
