The role
We are seeking a skilled CNC Turret Set-Up/Operator to join our manufacturing team. This role involves preparing and operating CNC turret machines and laser machines, ensuring precision and efficiency in production processes. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical knowledge, experience with Fanuc controls, and proficiency in CNC programming. This position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with a background in machining, blueprint reading, and manufacturing to contribute to high-quality production while advancing their technical skills.
What you’ll do
- Program, set-up and operate the Amada CNC Turret Punch, Laser and other machinery used in production process, or assist other operators
- Select proper die clearances based on material requirements
- Set up tooling, load programs and set machine parameters to ensure optimal performance of the equipment
- Determine condition of tools and point of re-sharpening as well as re-sharpen punches and dies as needed
- Select and set up lenses based on material type and thickness, load programs, set machine parameters and proper fixtures to ensure optimal performance of equipment
- Establish proper stop location, adjust laser beam focal point
- Create and edit laser cut files from CAD drawings in various formats. Prepare, lay out and array parts from the cut files in laser software for optimal engraving and cutting speeds and yields
- Manage and maintain files to ensure matching revision levels at all times
- Monitor fill level of chiller system and process gases, reporting reordering requirements
- Consistently produce usable product that meets dimensional specifications of engineered drawings
- Read work orders and tag product as required
- Work with team members to maximize productivity and efficiency
- Keep all work areas clean and organized
- Work in compliance with all ISO and OHSA and company standards, following all safety protocol
What you bring
- Minimum 2 years’ experience programming sheet metal, Amada experience preferred
- Certificate or Diploma in CNC Machining would be considered an asset
- Ability to read drawings and specifications and a knowledge of engineered specified tolerances
- Proven measurement and mathematical skills including tape measures, angle gauges and calipers
- Knowledge of tooling and tool maintenance
- Knowledge of G code programming and AutoCAD; SolidWorks would be preferred
- Excellent attention to detail and strong measurement and mathematical conversion skills
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently
- Understanding of metal and material properties and ability to distinguish metal types
