Responsibilities:
- Prepare construction sites by clearing obstacles, setting up barricades, and ensuring safety protocols are followed.
- Operate heavy machinery such as excavators to assist in digging trenches, laying cables, and installing telecommunication equipment.
- Read and interpret construction blueprints, MC plans, technical drawings, and schematics to facilitate accurate installations.
- Install PED and GLBs as per MC plan.
- Install fibre optic cables (sub surface) as per plan.
- Assemble and install conduit as required.
- Complete conduit splicing (face-to-face connections) as per MC plan.
- Back fill daylights, trenches & other pits with slingers or mini excavators to standard, install sod, complete resto of hard surfaces.
- Operate power tools such as quick cuts, jumping jacks, jack hammers, sawzalls, etc.
- Set up lane closures as per MTO Book 7 & help with traffic control.
- Handle and transport construction materials, tools, and equipment safely and efficiently.
- Adhere to all safety regulations, protocols, and guidelines to maintain a secure work environment and prevent accidents.
- Work closely and effectively communicate with supervisors and fellow laborers to ensure smooth project execution and timely completion.
- Lead tailboards & manage site in absence of the Supervisor.
- Perform basic maintenance tasks on construction equipment and tools, reporting any defects or malfunctions promptly.
- Flexibility is required to undertake additional responsibilities as needed in order to meet company objectives.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 2-years of experience in a telecom construction environment.
- Possession of a valid G License.
- AZ/ARZ license is an asset.
- Ability to operate the Mini Excavator.
- Ability to tow trailers and proficient in backing up a trailer.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the job, including standing for long periods and lifting heavy loads of up to 40 pounds.
- Experience in restoration and landscaping is an asset.
- Good hand-eye coordination for precise handling of tools and equipment.
- Professional with power tools and machinery is a plus.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with colleagues.
