Full job description

Overview:
We are seeking a talented and driven Product Design Engineer to join our client's team. In this role, you will use your technical expertise to develop innovative engineering solutions for new product concepts, working closely with cross-functional teams to bring ideas to life. You will play a key role in ensuring products meet design intent, cost targets, and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop innovative and practical engineering solutions for new product concepts
Transform initial concepts into optimized designs through modeling, prototyping, and testing
Create accurate 3D CAD models and detailed drawings using SolidWorks
Prepare complete technical documentation in compliance with internal standards and ECR/ECO processes
Collaborate with Product Management and Industrial Design teams to meet customer and market needs
Work cross-functionally to resolve product challenges related to functionality, cost, manufacturability, and performance
Validate product designs through testing to industry standards (e.g., BIFMA, CGSB, UL, CSA)
Support prototype development and testing for validation and pre-launch activities
Provide preliminary cost estimates during product development to ensure feasibility
Liaise with external suppliers for sourcing components, tooling, and fabrication solutions
Support manufacturing and engineering teams during new product launches
Troubleshoot production issues and recommend corrective actions and cost improvements
Stay current with industry trends, materials, manufacturing technologies, and sustainability practices

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
5–8 years of experience in product design within a manufacturing environment (consumer goods preferred)
Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) license or eligibility for registration
Strong experience with various manufacturing processes and materials (e.g., sheet metal, plastics, wood, injection moulding)
Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience with SolidWorks (3D modeling and detailing)
Experience with prototyping and product testing
Strong problem-solving skills with a hands-on, adaptable approach
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Strong organizational, project management, and multitasking abilities
Self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
Ability to travel locally as required
