Plaintiff Personal Injury Tort Law Clerk

Salary: $55,000–$78,000 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
YS Law Firm is a boutique law firm in Markham specializing in personal injury law. We are seeking an experienced Plaintiff Personal Injury Tort Law Clerk to join our litigation team.
The successful candidate will have a minimum of two years of plaintiff-side personal injury tort experience and will be comfortable independently managing files, monitoring litigation deadlines, preparing productions and undertakings, and assisting counsel throughout the litigation process, including discoveries, mediations, pre-trials and trial preparation.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Independently managing a portfolio of plaintiff personal injury tort files and ensuring files progress in a timely manner.
- Monitoring and diarizing limitation periods, litigation deadlines and other important dates.
- Identifying and following up on the next procedural steps required on each file.
- Compiling, reviewing and serving productions and undertakings, and maintaining applicable charts.
- Preparing files for examinations for discovery, mediations, pre-trials and trials.
- · Drafting litigation documents, including Offers to Settle, Trial Records, Notices of Intention, Notices of Discontinuance and related materials.
- Arranging expert assessments and preparing document briefs and document indexes.
- Summarizing medical records, productions and other relevant documentation as required.
- Coordinating discoveries, mediations, pre-trials and other litigation events with counsel and support staff.
- Maintaining regular and professional communication with clients, defence counsel, insurers, experts and third-party providers.
- Attending internal file review meetings and identifying outstanding issues or next steps.
- Conducting intake interviews with prospective clients when required.
- Providing support to lawyers and other members of the litigation team as needed.
- Performing other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum two years of plaintiff-side personal injury tort experience as a Law Clerk.
- Strong working knowledge of the Ontario Rules of Civil Procedure.
- Experience managing personal injury tort files through various stages of litigation.
- Experience preparing productions, undertakings, litigation documents and files for discoveries, mediations, pre-trials and trials.
- Strong understanding of limitation periods and litigation deadlines.
- Proficiency with PCLaw, Microsoft Word, Outlook and Microsoft 365.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational, time-management and prioritization skills.
- Ability to independently manage multiple files and competing deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and proofreading skills.
- Ability to take initiative, identify next steps and work with minimal supervision.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
