Full job description

Position Summary:

Reporting to Manager and Supervisor of Nutrition and Dietary Services, the incumbent will prepare and serve food for the residents and other events. Maintain the highest quality standard of food production, cleanliness and sanitation standard of work area and equipment.

Main Duties:

Prepare and serve meal to residents.
Maintain equipment.
Notify supervisor/cook if the food/supply inventory is low.
Receive, store and check food and supplies in proper storage areas.
Prepare food, snack and dessert for regular, texture modified and therapeutic diets.
Ensure foods served are palatable and at right temperature with the right portion sizes served.
Report safety hazards immediately to the supervisors.
Ensure all foods are properly stored and labelled.
Ensure all food contact surfaces are sanitized.
Prepare dining areas by setting tables, filling condiment containers and delivering food to tables as necessary.
Clean tables at the end of meal and wash all dishes, flatware, pots and pans as required.
Collect and remove garbage from kitchen
Follow the assigned daily cleaning and work activity schedule.
Attend staff meetings, committee meetings and in-service training as required.
Assist in updating resident’s nutritional information as assigned.
Assist in maintaining records for the dietary operation.
Other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

Food handler certificate
Institutional, health care, restaurant, or hospitality food service experience
Or one of the following qualifications:
- students hired on a seasonal or part-time basis, who have successfully completed a food handler training program;
- persons who meet the qualifications as cook; or
- persons who have a post-secondary diploma in food and nutrition management or a post-secondary degree in food and nutrition
Other education requirements are specified in the Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021
Experience working in long-term care / health care setting, institutional, health care, restaurant, or hospitality food service;
Good interpersonal and communication skills;
Proficiency in oral and written English.
Cultural sensitive and ability to speak Cantonese/Mandarin in addition to English would be an asset.
Able to lift 25 pounds.
Able to pull / push 500-pound food warming cart.
Long periods of standing, walking and repeated bending.
