Child Development Support Worker (Independent Contractor)

Compensation: $19.00–$22.00 per hour
Position Type: Part-Time Independent Contractor

About the Role
True North Child Development Services is seeking compassionate and reliable professionals to provide one-on-one support to children with diverse learning, developmental, social, communication, and behavioural needs.
Many of the children supported have Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, developmental delays, learning challenges, or require additional support to achieve their developmental and educational goals.
Sessions are individualized and may take place in libraries, community settings, childcare programs, schools, recreational environments, or family homes.

Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one support to children
- Implement individualized learning and developmental activities
- Facilitate play-based learning experiences
- Support social, emotional, communication, and self-help skill development
- Assist children with school readiness and early academic skills
- Complete structured activities including:
- Handwriting practice
- Letter and number recognition
- Early literacy and language development
- Reading activities
- Early math concepts
- Fine motor development activities
- Educational worksheets and learning tasks
- Encourage independence, confidence, and positive behaviour
- Complete brief session notes and communicate professionally with families and supervisors
Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and/or special needs
- Experience in childcare, education, behavioural support, recreation, or community programming
- Valid Driver's License and reliable vehicle
- Ability to travel throughout Scarborough, Durham Region, Oshawa, and Bowmanville
- Current Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) — Required
- Current Standard First Aid & CPR Certification — Required
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently
Schedule
- Minimum commitment of 6 hours per week
- Flexible scheduling
- After-school hours available
- Evening availability considered an asset
- Weekend availability considered an asset
- Additional hours available as client demand increases
Independent Contractor Position
This role is offered on an independent contractor basis.
Contractors are responsible for:
- Their own tax deductions and remittances
- CPP and other self-employment obligations
- Maintaining required certifications and clearances
- Managing their own income reporting and tax filings
