We are currently recruiting contract faculty for the Blasting Techniques certificate program. In this program you will provide students with in-depth knowledge of blast design, explosives handling, loading, initiation, and post-blast assessment, safety procedures, equipment operations, industry standards, career-readiness skills, and environmental considerations.
Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

Delivering courses in the Blasting Techniques program.

Delivering and supporting the assigned curriculum to meet course learning objectives.

Incorporating a variety of teaching and learning strategies to meet student needs.

Assessing and monitoring student progress and achievement.
-
Establishing and sustaining a positive and supportive learning environment.
-
Leveraging educational technologies effectively to enhance learning, manage and publish grades, and facilitate course delivery.
Education and Experience Requirements:
-
Post-secondary credential in blasting, mining, drilling, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and industry experience. Certificate of Qualification in the Surface Blaster (278B) trade through Skilled Trades Ontario is highly preferred.

Minimum of seven years of recent hands-on experience in blasting operations (e.g., mining, quarrying, or heavy construction with a focus on blast design and vibration control).

Demonstrated knowledge of applicable legislation and regulations, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and explosives regulations including Ontario Regulation 854/90 (Mines and Mining Plants) and the federal Explosives Act.

Completed Surface Miner Common Core training; Train the Trainer certification an asset.

Technical ability to teach modern blast design software (e.g., ShotPlus, JKSimBlast) and GPS-guided hole alignment.

Strong commitment to occupational health and safety standards and safe work practices.

Standard First Aid & CPR Level C, with specialized knowledge in blast-site emergency protocols.

Relevant safety certifications (e.g., WHMIS, Working at Heights, TDG for Explosives)

Experience training, mentoring, or supervising personnel in blasting or related industrial environments.

Must provide a clean Police Record Check for the Explosive

Ability to deliver both classroom and hands-on (field/lab) instruction.

Proficiency in assessing student performance and providing constructive feedback.

Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Computer proficiency and ability to use educational technologies for instruction and evaluation.
Valid DZ driver licence considered an asset.
