About the Role

The CFOC-DOC Community Care & Safety Team provides support with access, compliance and physical navigation within CFOC-DOC programs, provides property and facility surveillance within the allocated radius while practicing de-escalation and calming strategies. The ideal candidate will have a strong attention to detail, excellent problem-solving skills, and a commitment to maintaining a welcoming and well-maintained environment, including interactions with patrons, tenants, parishioners and visitors.

What You'll Do

Security Monitoring and Surveillance

Conduct regular walking and driving patrols of the facility to identify security risks and maintain a visible security presence.
Conduct visual inspections of the building using surveillance equipment to monitor premises.
Participate in daily team shift change debriefing sessions, working with team members in a unified, patron-focused manner

Access Control

Manage access control and monitoring entry and exit points.
Verify the identity of individuals entering the facility and enforce security protocols.
Document and orient any new participants and/or refer them to the appropriate support, document all turnaways and the reasons.

Surveillance

Conduct investigations into incidents of theft, fraud, or other security breaches, and collaborate with other teams as needed.

Security Procedures and Protocols

Enforce security policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
Develop and update security protocols to address emerging threats and vulnerabilities with the support of your manager.

Emergency Response

Respond promptly to security incidents, including medical emergencies, fire alarms, and security breaches.
Coordinate with emergency services and assist in evacuations or other emergency procedures as necessary.

Report Writing and Documentation

Maintain detailed records of security incidents, investigations, and security-related activities.
Prepare written reports documenting security breaches, suspicious activities, and loss prevention efforts.

Health and safety compliance

Use appropriate PPE at all times, including appropriate clothing, boots, gloves, vest etc.

General Program Support

Support with programming and general maintenance of the program boundary
Support patrons found within the boundary to return to the shelter site or connect with appropriate supports
Support community engagement with neighbours, businesses or other related to patron activities

What You Bring

Required

High school diploma or equivalent; additional certifications in security management or loss prevention are required
Proven experience in security operations, loss prevention, or a related field.
Strong knowledge of security protocols, access control systems, and surveillance techniques.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with employees, visitors, and law enforcement personnel.
Sound judgment and decision-making abilities, particularly in high-pressure situations.
Physical fitness and the ability to stand, walk, or patrol for extended periods.
Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Ability to establish connections while maintaining personal boundaries
Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and anti-oppressive practice
Clear Vulnerable Sector Police Records Check
Flexibility for some evening or weekend hours as required based on program needs.
Valid Crisis Prevention Intervention Certification or equivalent
Valid First Aid Certification
Valid Driver's License with a clean driving record

Asset

Experience in a shelter, residential care, or community services facility specifically
Mental Health First Aid Certification
ASIST Certification
Background in advocacy, community organizing, or public education on social issues
