Job Summary
The Total Rewards Specialist supports the development, administration, and continuous improvement of Baycrest’s benefits and compensation programs, ensuring alignment with the organization’s vision, values, and strategic priorities.
Acting as a subject matter expert, the Specialist builds consultative and collaborative relationships with HR partners, operational leaders, and employees to support and enhance total rewards initiatives. The role provides input into the Total Rewards philosophy, vision, and strategy established by the HR leaders, and supports their effective implementation.
The Specialist is responsible for maintaining total rewards policies, programs, and processes, and for ensuring their consistent execution across Human Resources and Payroll functions. This position also serves as a key resource, delivering accurate and timely total rewards information to internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the day-to-day administration of benefits and compensation programs. Serve as the escalation point for complex internal and external inquiries, providing expert guidance and recommendations. Ensure total rewards content is accurate and up to date on the intranet in collaboration with Communications.
- Administer sick leave programs for all employees, including those eligible and ineligible for the Hospital of Ontario Disability Income Plan (HOODIP), in partnership with Occupational Health & Safety, HR Operations, managers, and employees.
- Support and actively participate in the annual compensation cycle, including data analysis, report preparation, development of communication materials, and coordination with HR, Payroll, and leaders to ensure seamless execution.
- Deliver high-quality analytics and insights by gathering, analyzing, and presenting data through regular and ad hoc reports and dashboards. Support collective bargaining activities through costing analysis, market benchmarking, and implementation of negotiated agreements.
- Monitor market trends, conduct research, and develop recommendations to enhance total rewards programs, processes, and tools, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and best practices.
- Coordinate and complete annual compensation and benchmarking surveys, including submissions for external organizations and internal unions to support market competitiveness and bargaining readiness.
- Oversee the administration of employee benefits programs, including identifying opportunities to optimize costs, improve efficiency, and enhance plan design. Support the annual benefits renewal process through cost analysis, design evaluation, and communication development.
- Support and maintain the job evaluation process, providing recommendations on job classifications, salary structures, and pay bands. Support implementation and communication of changes, ensuring internal equity and compliance with pay equity legislation.
- Act as a subject matter expert in compensation programs, supporting the design, implementation, and administration of initiatives such as pay equity, salary budgeting, job evaluation, market analysis, total rewards strategy development, and benchmarking.

Qualifications
- University degree in Human Resources or a related discipline
- CPP, CEBS, CHRP, or other HR professional certification (preferred)
- 3–5 years of progressive experience in benefits and total rewards
- Advanced proficiency in Excel, with strong overall technical aptitude
- Experience using HRIS systems to extract, analyze, and manipulate data
- Solid knowledge of compensation principles and practices, with strong analytical and statistical capabilities
- Strong working knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Code, Pay Equity Act, and pension and benefits regulations
Compensation
At Baycrest, we take pride in ensuring our compensation structure is internally equitable and compliant with pay equity legislation. We believe compensation should be transparent, equitable, and reflective of your experience and growth. Our salary ranges are structured to support progression, from learning the role to demonstrating full proficiency.
For this position, the salary range is $74,654 to $93,318.
Your placement within the target hiring range will depend on your job-related knowledge, skills, abilities, and relevant education and experience, as well as considerations such as market conditions and internal equity. The starting salary will be determined using these factors to ensure fairness and consistency across the organization.
