Position Overview
Scentroid is seeking an experienced Senior Embedded Systems Engineer to lead the development of advanced sensing instrumentation and embedded platforms. This role combines hands-on engineering with technical leadership responsibilities, including managing embedded development activities, mentoring junior engineers, driving product architecture decisions, and overseeing the successful execution of R&D projects.
The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping Scentroid's next generation of environmental monitoring technologies, integrating embedded systems, wireless communications, artificial intelligence, sensor fusion, and cloud-connected devices.
This position reports directly to senior management and serves as a technical leader within the Research and Development department.
Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical Leadership
- Lead the design, architecture, and development of embedded systems for new and existing products.
- Establish technical standards, development methodologies, and engineering best practices across the embedded systems team.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior and intermediate engineers.
- Conduct design reviews and approve engineering deliverables prior to release.
- Provide technical leadership during product planning, feasibility assessments, and technology evaluations.
- Drive innovation initiatives involving advanced sensing technologies, edge AI, wireless communications, and autonomous monitoring systems.
Embedded Systems Development
- Design and develop firmware for microcontrollers, embedded Linux platforms, and real-time operating systems.
- Develop low-level drivers, communication interfaces, and hardware abstraction layers.
- Architect robust systems utilizing protocols including SPI, I²C, UART, CAN, USB, Ethernet, BLE, Wi-Fi, LoRa, LTE, and satellite communications.
- Optimize embedded systems for reliability, power consumption, performance, and manufacturability.
- Support integration of artificial intelligence and machine learning models onto embedded platforms.
Electronics Design
- Lead schematic design, PCB layout reviews, signal integrity analysis, and system validation activities.
- Design mixed-signal, analog, digital, RF, and power electronics systems.
- Review and approve PCB layouts for compliance with manufacturing and reliability requirements.
- Support prototype development, testing, debugging, and transition to production.
- Evaluate and qualify new electronic components and sensing technologies.
Product Development & Program Management
- Manage embedded engineering activities across multiple simultaneous product development projects.
- Develop project schedules, resource requirements, technical milestones, and risk mitigation plans.
- Coordinate with software, mechanical, manufacturing, and operations teams throughout the product lifecycle.
- Participate in strategic product planning and technology roadmapping.
- Assist executive management in identifying future technology opportunities and research directions.
Documentation & Quality
Oversee creation and maintenance of:
- Schematics
- PCB layouts
- Firmware documentation
- Test procedures
- Manufacturing documentation
- Engineering Change Orders (ECOs)
- Bills of Materials (BOMs)
- Ensure compliance with company quality management procedures and industry best practices.
- Support regulatory certifications and product validation activities.
Department Leadership
- Assist with development of engineering staff.
- Participate in annual planning and departmental goal setting.
- Provide technical direction and workload prioritization for embedded engineering projects.
- Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
QualificationsRequired
- Bachelor's (B.Sc.) or Master's (M.Sc.) degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related discipline.
- 5+ years of professional experience in embedded systems development.
- Demonstrated experience leading engineering projects and mentoring technical teams.
- Expert-level knowledge of embedded firmware development in C/C++.
- Extensive experience with microcontroller and embedded Linux development.
- Expert knowledge of PCB design, schematic capture, component selection, manufacturing processes, and hardware validation.
Strong understanding of:
- Signal integrity
- EMC/EMI mitigation
- Power management
- Mixed-signal design
- RF systems
- High-speed digital design
- Experience with PCB design tools such as Altium Designer, Autodesk Eagle, KiCad, or equivalent.
- Hands-on experience using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, and environmental testing equipment.
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes including DFM, DFA, testing, and production scaling.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred
- Experience managing technical teams or engineering departments.
- Experience with wireless product development including Wi-Fi, BLE, LTE, LoRaWAN, and GNSS.
- Experience with edge AI, TinyML, or machine learning deployment on embedded platforms.
- Familiarity with cloud-connected IoT systems and remote device management.
- Experience with environmental monitoring, industrial instrumentation, medical devices, or autonomous systems.
- Knowledge of SolidWorks and mechanical integration principles.
- Experience working within ISO 9001 or similar quality management systems.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $100,000.00-$120,000.00 per year
