Compensation: Negotiable (Per File, Hourly, Flat Fee, or Hybrid Arrangement)
Opportunity
We are seeking an Ontario-licensed lawyer with experience in civil litigation, motions, discoveries, court filings, and complex commercial disputes to assist with several active matters that require immediate attention.
The files involve completed or substantially completed pleadings, affidavits, documentary evidence, and litigation materials. The successful candidate will review, refine where necessary, and assume carriage of court filings, motions, discoveries, and related litigation steps.
This opportunity may be particularly attractive to a lawyer who is establishing or expanding a solo or boutique litigation practice and is seeking meaningful files with ongoing work potential.
Current Matters Include
- Proposed class proceeding involving mortgage industry compensation, commissions, lender incentive payments, accounting claims, tracing remedies, and fiduciary obligations.
- Potential professional negligence and malpractice claims arising from the alleged mishandling, neglect, delay, and mismanagement of litigation matters by previous legal counsel.
- Evaluation of potential claims against former counsel where evidence may support allegations of professional negligence, breach of duty, or malpractice resulting in financial losses and other damages.
- Commercial and civil disputes involving breach of fiduciary duties, accounting claims, equitable remedies, fraud-related allegations, and damages.
Responsibilities
- Review existing pleadings, evidence, affidavits, and litigation materials.
- Assess potential causes of action, including professional negligence and malpractice claims where appropriate.
- Review and file motions, application materials, and supporting records.
- Conduct discoveries and examinations.
- Provide strategic litigation advice.
- Manage court deadlines and procedural requirements.
- Advance matters through mediation, motion practice, trial preparation, or settlement discussions as appropriate.
Qualifications
- Member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
- Experience before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice.
- Strong understanding of Ontario Rules of Civil Procedure.
- Experience with motions, discoveries, and complex civil litigation.
- Familiarity with class proceedings, professional negligence, legal malpractice, fiduciary duty, fraud, accounting, tracing, or commercial litigation is an asset.
- Ability to work independently and manage files efficiently.

Requirements
- (JD) degree from an accredited law school with active licensure to practice law in <ONTARIO>.
- Proven experience in civil litigation, including courtroom procedures and case management.
- Strong research skills with proficiency in LexisNexis or similar legal research tools.
- Excellent written communication skills with the ability to draft clear and persuasive legal documents.
- Effective negotiation skills demonstrated through prior case work or mock negotiations.
- Ability to analyze complex legal issues critically and develop strategic solutions.
