Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Senior Director, Facilities Operations and Engineering, the Project Manager is responsible for managing a portfolio of capital renewal, renovation and infrastructure projects across Durham College, generally ranging from approximately $100K to $11M.
This temporary contract position role provides end-to-end project management support from planning and procurement through construction, commissioning, occupancy and close-out, while coordinating consultants, contractors, internal stakeholders and end users to deliver projects safely, on schedule, within budget and in alignment with college standards and operational requirements.

Manage multiple capital projects concurrently, including development of project plans, schedules, milestones, budgets, risk registers and status reporting tools.

Manage and coordinate consultants, contractors and other service providers through planning, design, tendering, construction, commissioning, handover and warranty phases.

Act as the primary point of contact for assigned projects and facilitate regular meetings, progress updates and issue resolution with users, Facilities staff, Finance, Procurement, IT, Security and other stakeholders.

Monitor project scope, schedule, cost, quality and risk; identify variances early and recommend mitigation strategies and corrective actions.

Prepare and maintain project documentation including meeting minutes, project status reports, financial updates, change logs, risk assessments and close-out records.

Support procurement activities including scope development, bid review, consultant and contractor coordination, contract administration, purchase orders and change management.

Review drawings, specifications, schedules and construction activities for alignment with project objectives, operational needs, college standards, code requirements and health and safety expectations.

Manage shutdowns, phasing, site access, user communications and occupancy planning to minimize disruption to campus operations.

Oversee site progress, deficiencies, commissioning and final inspections; support substantial completion, handover, deficiency resolution and lessons learned reviews.

Provide project management guidance and day-to-day coordination support to internal teams and stakeholders on assigned capital initiatives.
Qualifications:

A minimum of a 4-year degree in engineering, architecture, construction/project management, building sciences, or a related field.

A minimum of 5-years of progressively responsible experience managing capital construction, renovation and/or infrastructure projects, preferably in an institutional, public-sector, post-secondary, health care, municipal or similarly complex environment.

Strong knowledge of project management principles and practices, including scope, schedule, cost, risk, quality, procurement and contract administration.

Experience coordinating consultants, contractors and multiple internal stakeholders, and leading projects through planning, design, tender, construction and close-out.

Working knowledge of relevant codes, standards and health and safety requirements applicable to building construction and renovation projects in Ontario.

Strong financial and analytical skills, including experience tracking budgets, forecasting, reviewing change orders and preparing project status and financial reports.

Excellent communication, organization and relationship-management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and provide clear direction in a fast-paced environment.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams and project scheduling/reporting tools such as Microsoft Project or equivalent.

PMP, P.Eng., architectural, construction, or related professional designation/certification is an asset.
