About Simcotron Group
Simcotron Group is a Toronto-based manufacturer representative and specialty distributor focused exclusively on the Canadian data centre physical layer infrastructure market — structured cabling, fibre connectivity, racks, power, and active networking. Founded by a 30-year veteran of the fibre optic and physical layer industry, we operate on a depth-not-breadth model: a focused portfolio of premium manufacturer lines, deep technical expertise, and strong relationships across the Canadian DC ecosystem.
The Opportunity
Canadian data centre investment is accelerating. Financial institutions, colocation providers, carriers, and enterprise operators are all executing infrastructure builds and upgrades — and the physical layer is where those projects start. The 100G-to-400G transition alone is driving a full refresh cycle across cabling, connectivity, and optical infrastructure.
We are seeking a technically strong, commercially driven Sales Engineer to own and grow a premium fibre optic and optical connectivity portfolio across this market. The product line from a globally recognized European manufacturer spans high-density passive fibre infrastructure through to advanced optical circuit switching (OCS) technology used in AI and hyperscale environments. It is a technically sophisticated, differentiated portfolio with no current specialist representation in Canada.
This is a hunter role with a technical backbone. You will work directly alongside the founder, with full support of the manufacturer's North American technical and commercial team behind you.
What You'll Do
- Drive fibre optic and optical connectivity product sales into Canadian data centre accounts, with a main focus on enterprise DC environments
- Build and manage a pipeline of opportunities across new and existing accounts from prospecting through close
- Deliver compelling technical product demonstrations and design consultations tailored to each client's infrastructure requirements
- Bridge technical and business conversations — comfortable engaging both network engineers and procurement and operations stakeholders
- Position and explain advanced solutions, including optical circuit switches (OCS), SDN-enabled fibre automation, high-density MPO systems and bandwidth expansion architectures
- Develop and maintain relationships with DC operators, structured cabling contractors, A&E consultants, and systems integrators
- Provide technical support through the full sales cycle, including needs analysis, solution design, and post-sale troubleshooting coordination with the manufacturer's technical team
- Represent Simcotron at industry events, trade shows, and customer site visits across Ontario and nationally
- Provide market intelligence to inform Simcotron's product and partnership strategy
What You Bring
- 3+ years of technical sales or sales engineering experience in data centre infrastructure, structured cabling, or fibre/optical connectivity
- Strong working knowledge of DC physical layer infrastructure — fibre optic systems, MPO, high-density cabling, patch management, and relevant standards
- Familiarity with advanced optical technologies is a strong asset: optical circuit switching (OCS), SDN fibre automation, wavelength division multiplexing (WDM), or photonic switching fabrics for AI and hyperscale environments
- An established network of contacts in the Canadian DC ecosystem — enterprise datacenters, colo operators, EPC contractors, A&E consultants, and/or systems integrators
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, BOMs, and RFQ/RFP documentation
- Proven track record of building and closing a B2B technical sales pipeline
- Self-starter mentality — this is a growth-stage environment; the right person thrives with autonomy and direct access to decision-makers
- Post-secondary education in networking, electrical/photonic engineering technology, or a related technical discipline is an asset
