Position Overview
We are looking for an experienced Civil Foreman to lead field crews on active construction projects. The Foreman is the on-site leader responsible for daily production, crew supervision, quality of work, and site safety. You will report directly to the Project Manager and Construction Manager and are expected to drive the job forward every day.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and direct field crew including labourers, equipment operators, and pipe layers
- Plan and execute daily work activities to meet project schedule and budget
- Read and interpret construction drawings, grades, and specifications
- Coordinate material deliveries, equipment needs, and subcontractor activity on site
- Ensure all work is completed to drawing tolerances and specification requirements
- Conduct daily tailgate safety meetings and enforce all site safety protocols
- Complete daily foreman logs, production records, and quantity tracking
- Communicate progress, issues, and changes to the Project Manager promptly
- Identify and flag changed conditions, quantity overruns, or scope gaps in the field
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe job site at all times
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of civil construction experience with at least 2 years in a foreman or lead hand role
- Hands-on experience with underground infrastructure: culverts, storm and sanitary sewers, watermain, or similar
- Competency in grade control, laser and level setups, and reading civil drawings
- Valid driver's licence (Class G minimum); Class DZ an asset
- Working at Heights and WHMIS certifications
- Strong understanding of Ontario construction site safety requirements (OHSA)
- Ability to manage crew dynamics and maintain daily production under pressure
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with open trench excavation, culvert replacement, or road reconstruction
- Familiarity with OPSS and municipal contract specifications
- Previous experience working for a general contractor on municipal or conservation authority contracts
- Competent Supervisor designation or willingness to obtain
- First Aid certification
