Position Summary
We are a global manufacturer of precision steel and aluminum components serving customers across North America and international markets. Based in Toronto, our operations include local and regional deliveries, cross-border shipments between Canada and the United States, and international supply chain management with a strong focus on imports from China via ocean freight and rail transportation through Dallas distribution channels.
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Logistics Coordinator to oversee the movement of materials and finished goods throughout our domestic and international supply chain. The ideal candidate will be responsible for coordinating shipments, managing carrier relationships, tracking inventory movements, ensuring customs compliance, and supporting on-time delivery performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate inbound and outbound shipments across Canada, the United States, and international suppliers.
- Manage ocean freight imports from China, including shipment scheduling, tracking, and documentation.
- Coordinate rail transportation and inland logistics from port destinations to distribution facilities and customers.
- Arrange local deliveries within the Greater Toronto Area and regional shipments throughout North America.
- Identify, monitor, and proactively escalate supply chain and logistics risks to appropriate stakeholders to prevent disruptions and ensure uninterrupted production operations.
- Work closely with freight forwarders, customs brokers, carriers, warehouses, and internal departments to ensure efficient transportation of goods.
- Monitor shipment status and proactively resolve transportation delays, carrier issues, and service disruptions.
- Prepare and maintain shipping documentation including commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, customs paperwork, and carrier documentation.
- Ensure compliance with Canadian, U.S., and international shipping regulations.
- Track transportation costs and assist in identifying opportunities for freight savings and process improvements.
- Maintain accurate logistics records and shipment reporting within ERP and transportation management systems.
- Support inventory planning and production scheduling by ensuring timely delivery of raw materials and finished products.
- Communicate shipment updates and delivery schedules to customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in logistics, transportation, supply chain coordination, or a related field.
- Experience coordinating international freight, particularly ocean imports.
- Knowledge of cross-border shipping between Canada and the United States.
- Understanding of freight documentation, customs processes, and international trade compliance.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience within manufacturing, metals, industrial products, or automotive supply chains.
- Familiarity with ocean freight, rail transportation, and intermodal logistics.
- Experience working with Chinese suppliers and international sourcing operations.
- Knowledge of Incoterms, customs regulations, and duty management.
- Experience with ERP systems and inventory management software.
- Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP) designation or related certification is considered an asset.
Working Conditions
- Full-time, in-office position based in Toronto, Ontario.
- Occasional communication outside standard business hours to support international suppliers and logistics partners in different time zones.
- Collaborative work environment supporting manufacturing, procurement, and customer service teams.
