Background
Omachron Science Inc. (OSI) is a small research and development company whose core technical teams have developed hundreds of patented technologies across a wide range of areas, including floor care, cooking appliances, heating, ventilation and air conditioning, refrigeration, Stirling engines, solar power, new materials, and new manufacturing processes.
Our small, close-knit group of scientists, engineers, technicians, machinists, toolmakers, and model builders works in an environment of continuous learning and innovation. The company is expanding its team to include an experienced HVAC and refrigeration specialist with hands-on 313A certification who can provide technical input and guidance and mentor scientists, engineers, and other staff. Description
The HVAC and Refrigeration Specialist at Omachron Science develops new HVAC, refrigeration, and industrial and commercial thermofluids processes and applications, along with the methods and equipment used to develop, study, test, and convert them into products.
You will work with mechanical engineers, physicists, electronics engineers, machinists, and other technical staff to develop new technologies and solve complex technical problems. The role combines hands-on HVAC and refrigeration expertise with laboratory experimentation, prototype development, testing, equipment maintenance, and technical mentoring.
The successful candidate will also maintain and service Omachron's HVAC and gas equipment as required, while contributing to the development of new products and processes.

Duties
Research, Development and Prototyping
· Participate in brainstorming, ideation, and development of concepts for new HVAC, refrigeration, thermofluids processes, materials, equipment, and products.
· Work with scientists and engineers to evaluate concepts and develop practical experimental approaches.
· Translate concepts into mechanical CAD drawings, electronics schematics, process flow diagrams, and prototype designs in collaboration with the appropriate technical team members.
· Build, modify, test, and troubleshoot prototypes and experimental systems using processes such as machining, 3D printing, circuit-board assembly, wiring, and fabrication.
· Develop and test HVAC and refrigeration systems and components for research, prototype, and product-development applications.
· Participate in laboratory experimentation and document work through photographs, video, measurements, test results, and technical records.
HVAC, Refrigeration and Equipment
· Apply practical knowledge of HVAC and refrigeration systems to support product development and experimental work.
· Provide technical input, guidance, and mentoring to scientists, engineers, technicians, and other staff working on HVAC and refrigeration projects.
· Install, maintain, troubleshoot, modify, and service HVAC, refrigeration, and related gas equipment as required.
· Assist with the safe operation and maintenance of laboratory and experimental equipment.
· Apply appropriate procedures and technical judgment when working with refrigerants, gas systems, electrical systems, mechanical equipment, and other laboratory systems within the scope of the role and applicable licences.
Technical Analysis and Continuous Learning
· Analyze and synthesize technical information to identify practical solutions to complex problems.
· Apply knowledge of heat transfer, thermofluids, HVAC systems, refrigeration, materials, electronics, and mechanical systems to development projects.
· Work across multiple projects and disciplines while maintaining clear priorities, accurate records, and attention to detail.
· Contribute ideas and practical improvements that increase system efficiency, reliability, manufacturability, and cost-effectiveness.
Qualifications and Requirements
Required
· Valid 313A Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic Certificate of Qualification in Ontario.
· Hands-on experience building, servicing, troubleshooting, or modifying HVAC and refrigeration systems.
· Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
· Strong analytical, problem-solving, information-synthesis, and technical judgment skills.
· Excellent attention to detail and organization, with the ability to follow established procedures and manage priorities.
· Ability to work effectively on several projects at the same time.
· Curiosity, initiative, good judgment, and a practical hands-on approach.
· Ability to communicate fluently in English, both orally and in writing, where required to safely perform the duties and communicate technical information.
Assets
· G1 or G2 Gas Technician Certificate.
· Diploma or degree in engineering, science, or a related technical field.
· Knowledge or experience in materials science, high vacuum, electronics, or machining.
· Hands-on experience building HVAC systems and prototypes.
· Experience with CAD software.
· Training or working knowledge of heat transfer or HVAC modelling.
· Training or experience in metrology.

· The position is primarily based at the Omachron Science facility in Hampton, Ontario.
