CS&P Architects is a collaborative, employee-owned architectural practice delivering meaningful projects that strengthen communities across Ontario. Our work spans education, civic, recreation, healthcare, heritage, and institutional sectors, with a focus on thoughtful design, technical excellence, and long-term client relationships.
We are seeking a highly technical and detail-oriented Senior Architectural Technologist – Technical Lead (QA/QC) to join our team.
This position serves as CS&P's primary technical resource for project delivery, supporting teams across the practice in achieving the highest standards of documentation quality, technical coordination, constructability, and code compliance. Working closely with project managers, architects, technologists, and consultants, you will provide technical leadership that strengthens project quality, consistency, and risk management throughout the firm. This is a hands-on technical role: alongside leadership, mentorship, and QA/QC oversight, you will personally draft, detail, and produce construction documents and technical details. This is not a purely supervisory or review-only position.
Reporting to senior leadership, you will play a key role in advancing CS&P's quality assurance initiatives, establishing documentation standards, mentoring staff, and helping project teams navigate complex technical challenges. Your expertise will directly contribute to the delivery of coordinated, code-compliant, and technically robust construction documents across our institutional, educational, civic, healthcare, and community-based projects.
This position is ideal for a senior technical professional who enjoys problem-solving, knowledge-sharing, mentoring others, and raising the overall technical excellence of an architectural practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Personally draft, detail, and produce construction documents, technical details, wall sections, and assemblies for institutional and public-sector projects — this is a hands-on production role in addition to review and oversight responsibilities.
- Act as a technical resource to project teams across the firm, providing guidance on building systems, technical detailing, code compliance, constructability, and industry best practices.
- Lead technical coordination and review of architectural construction documents through permit, tender, and construction phases.
- Oversee document quality, consistency, constructability, and compliance with project requirements, applicable codes, accessibility standards, and industry best practices.
- Coordinate architectural, structural, civil, landscape, mechanical, and electrical consultant documentation to ensure fully integrated project deliverables.
- Review and resolve complex building envelope, accessibility, life safety, detailing, and multidisciplinary coordination issues.
- Lead and participate in QA/QC reviews at key project milestones and provide recommendations to improve document quality and risk management.
- Develop and maintain office standards, technical guidelines, drawing templates, quality control procedures, and documentation best practices.
- Provide technical mentorship and guidance to architects, interns, and technologists.
- Support project teams in resolving technical, coordination, and construction-related challenges during project delivery.
- Conduct code reviews and support permit and authority approval submissions.
- Research and evaluate building systems, construction materials, assemblies, and emerging technologies.
- Support construction administration activities, including review of RFIs, submittals, and site observations as required.
- Monitor changes to codes, regulations, and industry standards and communicate relevant updates across the practice.
- Contribute to a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, continuous improvement, and innovation.
Required Qualifications (Must-Haves)
- Diploma or Degree in Architectural Technology or Architecture.
- Minimum 8–10 years of professional experience in architectural practice, with extensive experience in technical project delivery and construction documentation.
- Hands-on drafting and production experience: proven ability to personally draft, detail, and produce construction documents, technical details, and drawings — this role includes direct production work and is not solely supervisory or review-based.
- Building envelope expertise: recognized technical expertise in building envelope systems, waterproofing, air and vapour barriers, roofing systems, thermal performance, durability, accessibility, and life safety requirements.
- Consultant coordination and technical leadership/mentorship experience: demonstrated experience coordinating multidisciplinary consultants (structural, civil, landscape, mechanical, electrical) and providing technical leadership and mentorship to architects, technologists, and interns.
- QA/QC and document review experience: experience leading QA/QC reviews at key project milestones and conducting technical reviews to identify deficiencies, omissions, inconsistencies, and construction risks within drawing sets.
- OBC/code and technical expertise: thorough knowledge of the Ontario Building Code, AODA, municipal approvals processes, applicable industry standards, and current construction practices.
- Institutional/public-sector project experience: extensive experience preparing, reviewing, and coordinating permit, tender, and construction documentation packages for institutional, educational, civic, healthcare, or public-sector projects.
- Revit/BIM experience: advanced proficiency in Revit and BIM-based project delivery, including model coordination, documentation standards, and quality control workflows.
