About Budget Optical
Since 1999, Budget Optical has been a trusted provider of quality eyewear and eye care services across Scarborough and Markham, Ontario. We are a community-first optical retailer committed to making vision care accessible, affordable, and genuinely enjoyable for every patient who walks through our door. As we continue to grow, we are looking for an exceptional Senior Store Manager to lead our team and help shape the next chapter of our story.
Role Overview
The Senior Store Manager is the operational heartbeat of a Budget Optical location. You will oversee all aspects of daily store performance — from team leadership and patient experience to sales accountability and compliance. This is a hands-on leadership role best suited to someone who thrives in a people-centred environment, takes ownership of results, and is genuinely excited about building high-performing teams in optical retail.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, coach, and inspire a team of optical associates and support staff to deliver outstanding patient experiences every day.
- Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and professional store environment where staff feel supported, motivated, and accountable.
- Coordinate scheduling, onboarding, and ongoing training to ensure every team member is equipped for success.
- Champion a growth mindset across the team — actively seeking opportunities to upskill, cross-train, and develop future leaders.
Sales Performance & Reporting
- Own daily sales reporting — tracking revenue, conversion rates, average transaction values, and other KPIs against established targets.
- Analyze store performance data and present actionable insights to ownership on a regular basis.
- Maintain a consistent track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets and hold the team accountable to shared goals.
- Identify and act on revenue opportunities within the store, including upsell strategies, lens package promotions, and recall campaigns.
Store Operations & Standards
- Manage day-to-day store operations including inventory control, visual merchandising, equipment maintenance, and appointment flow.
- Ensure full compliance with health and safety standards, corporate policies, and any applicable regulatory requirements.
- Uphold a consistently professional, clean, and welcoming store environment that reflects the Budget Optical brand.
- Coordinate with the Scarborough and Markham locations as needed to maintain operational consistency across both sites.
Training & Professional Development
- Participate actively in all company training initiatives and encourage the same commitment across your team.
- Stay current on optical products, lens technology, insurance processes, and industry best practices — either drawing on existing optical knowledge or demonstrating a clear eagerness to learn.
- Support weekly staff meetings and contribute to the ongoing staff development calendar established for the season.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 3–5 years of retail or service store management experience in a supervisory or senior leadership capacity.
- Experience in optical retail is a strong asset; candidates without it must demonstrate a genuine enthusiasm and aptitude for learning the industry quickly.
- Demonstrated history of meeting or exceeding sales targets with supporting documentation or references.
- Proficiency in daily sales reporting and comfort using point-of-sale and practice management software.
- Proven ability to build collaborative, high-trust team cultures in a customer-facing environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills — equally effective with patients, staff, and ownership.
- A growth mindset: open to feedback, proactive in self-development, and willing to support change initiatives.
- Ability to maintain composure, professionalism, and standards during high-volume periods.
What We Offer
- Competitive compensation commensurate with experience.
- Ongoing professional development and optical training support.
- A stable, community-rooted business with over 25 years of local history.
- The opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a leadership role at a growing independent retailer.
