Position Overview
The Team Lead / Shift Lead is an outgoing, caring individual who loves to work with children, youth, adults, and families. With strong leadership and active listening skills, this individual motivates and mentors on-site staff, ensuring adherence to Seal Swimming's Core Values and the successful delivery of the swim school's programs.
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Team Lead / Shift Lead embodies Seal Swimming's mission, vision, and values while maintaining high standards of communication, customer service, and program quality.
Responsibilities
The Position shall be measured against successful execution of tasks and responsibilities which include but may not be limited to the following:
- Greet, acknowledge, engage, and interact with customers as appropriate.
- Communicate with prospective customers and employees.
- Initiate, develop, and maintain positive relationships with customers and staff.
- Liaise with external suppliers, partners, and contractors.
- Represent Seal Swimming's team with positivity and enthusiasm.
- Respond to customer questions regarding Seal Swimming's programs, policies, and procedures.
- Quickly and efficiently address customer questions, comments, and concerns.
- Deliver pertinent feedback and comments from customer to the General Manager.
- Maintain a Seal Swimming email account and workspace, ensuring professionalism in communication.
- Send ad hoc communications to customers through established channels.
Program Delivery
- Apply teaching strategies that encourage students to excel and reach their full potential.
- Create an educational, safe, and inviting experience for all students.
- Provide all students with safety-focused instruction aimed at fostering reward, discipline, and perseverance.
- Offer technical expertise in basic swimming skills, stroke improvement, swim starts, turns, and finishes.
- Stay updated on the latest tools, techniques, and advances in swimming through continuing education.
- Ensure the highest standards are met according to Seal Swimming's curriculum guidelines and program standards.
- Adhere to Seal Swimming's policies, procedures, and governing regulations at all times.
- Assume responsibility for the safety of swimmers during supervised activities.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized pool facility.
- Comply with safety rules and regulations.
- Prevent emergencies from occurring and respond to situations as necessary.
- Care for injuries and medical emergencies following training protocols.
- Use all required safety devices and personal protective equipment.
- Report accidents and injuries promptly using appropriate forms.
- Participate in regular safety training and internal safety audits.
- Assist Management in developing risk assessments and record keeping.
- Prepare and adapt lesson plans and work schemes for assigned classes.
- Recognize and record swimmer progressions, complete skills assessments, and progress reports.
- Track attendance and note ongoing absences with support from Swim Teachers.
- Report ongoing student absences to the Customer Success and Leadership Teams.
- Record swimmer notes and progress logs for use by substitute staff during absences.
- Support Mentor Teachers in training and assessing Assistant Teachers and new hires.
- Assist with onboarding new employees.
- Help deliver staff training and development.
- Provide leadership to staff on duty.
- Maintain a positive workplace culture and motivate employees.
- Lead by example by offering support to employees both in the water and on deck.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by Management.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Permanent, Casual
Pay: $22.00-$26.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 40 per week
Work Location: In person
