Job Summary:
Work with Ontario Tech faculties/departments to determine desired goal(s) and data needs of new projects and ad-hoc requests. Use knowledge of data and systems to proactively contribute to framework/report design process and suggest changes in methodology/design. Gather data for new projects and ad-hoc requests, using a thorough knowledge of Banner Student, HR and Finance data sources and reporting tools to determine the method(s) that maximizes quality and transparency of process.
Responsibilities/accountabilities:
Cognos Business Intelligence

Expert knowledge of Ellucian Insights reporting and Power BI. Support the university to deliver efficient Enterprise suite applications and reporting solutions.

Coordinate with data architecture and modeling team to design databases

Assist with design, development, implementation and support all Cognos reporting solutions

Develop and perform tests on various enterprises using reporting software and assist all end users

Convert Cognos reports to Insights/Power BI

Develop complex dashboard reports using relational and multidimensional database

Develop SQL queries and external data sources for data not provided by I.T.

Provide proposal to I.T. in regards to Framework model administration

Identify and pursue opportunities to automate regular reporting

Prepare all designs and code for various reporting objects and ensure compliance to all best business practices

Approve reports developed by others before publishing to production

Maintain security access lists for users
Data: Reporting and Analysis
- Expert knowledge of Banner Student data, in particular to data details, table join definitions and Framework model setup. Able to write and recommend data reports for Human Resources data as well.

Define data requirements and use appropriate methodologies to develop report design

Provide written and graphical reports with accompanying documentation on findings

Lead meetings with users to gather user requirements

Investigate and resolve all data issues and analyze all business requirements and perform interview with all stakeholders

Report to I.T. incorrect join definitions between tables and propose changes to maximize better performance

Respond to data requests from internal and external stakeholders and compiling reports

Providing support for updates to the University Fact Book, Common University Data Ontario, and other institutional key performance indicators
Interdepartmental collaboration

Work in collaboration with faculties/departments to maintain and enhance standard Banner Student reporting package and support ongoing ad-hoc reporting needs.

Works with customers to determine desired goals and data needs of new projects and ad-hoc requests.

Clarifies and document requirements, and obtain acceptance of deliverables from the customers

Work with customers to plan and execute reporting needs for upcoming cycles

Identify trends and propose the creation and adjustments of reports and analyses

Created a dashboard report for Career Center that use to take a couple of days to generate

Use Cognos to generate letter documents for student. Old process, run report and export to Excel, create document in Word and generate letter documents using mail merge
